Aintturninound appeciation

It's about all...that...GUITAR! It makes my ears bleed sweet guitar blood. It hasn't sounded that good on a Prince song since the end of title track to The Rainbow Children. Fuuuuuuuuunnnnk!!!!

No!

Bad album. I love the pop funk on AOA, but I really dislike Plectrum....

I am not feeling this garage rockband sound at all: cry

The guitar is good, but then Prince starts talking over the distortion about how it's the ultrasound of Donna's brain, I like the idea, but nah! Plus Hannah's singing is cringe worthy to me, although she does sound better on this song than some of the others. Don't particularly care for the lyrics of this song either.... Sorry I'm not more appreciative of this song, but I had such high hopes sad

I think if this was a bootleg release folks wouldn't be so hard on this album, but since there was so much hype leading to this release (if you're a Prince fan) that this album fell flat for many who had much enthusiasm for it. It's not a strong album at all, there's some strong songs, but not enough.

gahhh truth. hannah should not sing. she makes the album unlistenable. i like the music, but her voice is cringeworthy. shrill and strained with no depth. this album needed more prince vocal and a really strog female rock singer, i think someone like cyndi lauper could have killed it, ann wilson, or joan jett...the vocal performances on this album killed it for me...wanted to love it but couldn't.

Born on the isle of... Shit, skip.

Actually it's pretty damn awesome from about 1:23 onwards.

I love Plectrumelectrum but my album goes like this:

Wow
Pretzelbodylogic (No intro)
Empty Room rehearsal
Plectrumelectrum
Screwdriver remix (edit - chopped after your my screw at 3:52)

Fixurlifeup

Tictactoe

Anotherlove

Marz
Funknroll

Absolutely fantastic album.

RIP sad

A mess of a song. Sounds like some Battle of the Bands entry by a bunch of teens. As for Hannah's voice? Well she ain't no Beth Ditto or Ella Fitzgerald that's for sure.

Physically dislike this song. PE was a huge disappointment after seeing them live. Shockingly bad.

Would be much song without Hannah's shrill lead vocal. She is much better suited for backup vocals, her voice is a good complement to Prince's on Anotherlove.

You know, I thought this would be a definite skipper for me.. but something about it keeps me listening to it when I have the album on. I think its the melody. The lyrics are not great (except for the "the hand that you're looking for is at the end of your arms" line, but there something about the melody my brain really likes. I actually woke up one day a month or two ago humming it.

Change it one more time..

That is not a great lyric by any stretch of the imagination, imo! But it is the pinacle of the lyrics for that track which really doesn't say very much.

For me, this song and a few others on the album is reminiscent of earlier Prince 80s. The Police-like chords in v. 1 and 2 and the breakdown that starts at 1:36 reminds me of a similar breakdown in "Family Name" from The Rainbow Children. It's too bad you don't like the "hand..." lyric, though, because for me, that's the best line of the song.

Absolutely dreadful and another reason why Plectrum Electrum is his worst album since the Rainbow Children. Bad singing, bad lyrics (Born on the island of pain??? WTF) and it will take more than a guitar solo to make me like it).

.

PLE has only 6 good tracks - WOW, Funknroll, Anotherlove, Fixurlifeup, Pretzelbodylogic and Whitecaps, the rest is unlistenable tosh especially Boytrouble.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

One man's garbage is another man's gold. I think it should be known that the critique of Plectrumelectrum is why I re-joined the org in the first place. I saw too many people not getting this album on every level and decided that I had to come along and provide the necessary balance. And really, it's sad how badly people are stuck in their ways about what a Prince album should sound, that they can't get this album for the breath that it brings to the music world today.

BT is one of my favorites from the album. Its fun, and Ida's bass playing on it is killer.

Hannah's vocals make this song. What do you want, Rosie Gaines? It would be a different vibe. Hannah's vocals are perfect for this rock song. I dig her and I dig this jam!

I don't think anybody is disputing the quality of musicianship, it's just the quality of songs that is the issue.

But it's okay to like, love and enjoy poor music. I loved Gangnam Style and I'm still not afraid to admit it.

I would prefer it to be an instrumental, like PLECTRUMELECTRUM, rather than have Hannah's horrible so called singing on it. Since you mentioned it, I would take Rosie Gaines over Hannah any day. Rosie can probably outdo her on drums too.

Sometimes when people get like this (usually the hard-core fans) that no matter who it is, and I dare say that even if the ones they want most were to come back, they still wouldn't be satisifed, partly because I don't think that even they know what they want in terms of Prince music, and they may never know.
