Could be... But "When Doves Cry" is solid. Imagine if a song like that had not been a single and was bootleg.

Agreed. It's funny how a little thing like that can really change a song. The released version is one of my top 3 on the album and probably top 30 prince songs. If the original sparse opening was there and the guitar solo was turned up in the mix, it'd be in my top 10.

What do you guys think of the ONA Live: It Ain't Over version?

Personally, I like the Graffiti Bridge version more. The feeling and meaning of the song come through MUCH better on the GB version. Plus, the guitar solos on the ONA Live version are far from my favorite Prince solos, and that's really the only part one could say is better.

I love the ONA Live version with the amazing guitar solos, but the GB version is the best one imo

I gotta say The Emancipation Concert with the dope percussion in the beginning might be my favorite.

There was a performance of Joy n repeition on the mtv europe channel that was awesome. There was a big emphasis on the bongos in the song. It was on Youtube for a while until they took it down. I wonder if there are any bootlegs with this version on it? Are there any alternate or remix versions of this song????

I'm sure that was the Emancipation concert from Paisley I referenced that we saw here in the states to comemmorate the release of the 3 cd set.

Yes.

I really, really, really love that song.

Great guitar play and I'm a fan of story telling in a song.

Song gets under my skin every time I hear it.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

when you htink about it the concept...it's so simple...joy in repetition.

repetition is the only way to mastery....those bored by repetition have no aspiration for something other than now...

three simple words, so much to gain from it in such a simple way...so so brilliant.
