Say it isn't so, Prince

Read a blind item on blindgossip.com site about a music artist at the Golden Globes-- "This music star was at last night’s Golden Globe Awards. Here’s a weird story we heard about him yesterday from an industry insider.

During his last tour, he performed at a large venue. His rider was even more demanding than most artists.

He insisted that everything backstage had to be painted or draped in a certain color, and that all personnel had to wear that same color. When one of the staff wore a shirt of the wrong shade, that person was ordered to go change his shirt or be dismissed.

The rider also specified that none of the venue’s staff were allowed to leave until the artist himself left the premises. However, instead of leaving after his performance, the artist demanded a taped copy of the entire evening’s performances. He then holed up in his dressing room watching the tape for several hours. Over one hundred hungry and tired staff members were held captive at the venue until after 2:00 a.m. while this artist sat in his dressing room, by himself, watching himself for hours!"

Every one on the site keeps saying it's Prince and he's getting a bad rap because of it. I hope it's not him. sad

I've witnessed his demands first hand and can confirm that he indeed always demands a taped copy from his or any peformance for him to watch ad nauseum in his hotel or dressing room...
Same goes for the draping and painting of his quarters how he sees fit when he arrives and staff wearing matching clothes...
I do think the whole ordeal of staff not being allowed to leave is misinterpreted/pulled out of someones ass since his usual demands for staff is that some should be around to cater his needs not all of them...

Nothing unusual for bitch ass celebrities with delusions of grandeur and holier than thou attitudes, I've seen much worse...

Doesn't seem unreasonable. The venue isn't buying new furniture for every artist. Would you want to sit on a groupie stained sofa?

and that all personnel had to wear that same color. When one of the staff wore a shirt of the wrong shade, that person was ordered to go change his shirt or be dismissed.

More commonly known as a uniform? If an employee turns up not wearing the uniform after being asked to wear it... Yes, go home, put on what you were asked to put on or go home and don't come back. Standard.

The rider also specified that none of the venue’s staff were allowed to leave until the artist himself left the premises.

HAHA. No shit. It seems perfectly reasonable that staff be asked not to just go home when they feel like it, but rather wait till the end of their shift.

However, instead of leaving after his performance, the artist demanded a taped copy of the entire evening’s performances.

Demanded or asked for? He's taped every show he's ever done.

He then holed up in his dressing room watching the tape for several hours. By "Held captive" I take it they mean "were asked by the venue to work to the end of their shift?" I doubt Prince was going to conduct a register to make sure he was the first to leave.

His rider sounds mundane if anything.

His rider's have been posed on the internet for years and are really tame compared to other artist.

All sounds true accept the held captive that makes is sound like a gun was being held to their heads and I am sure they were compensated for their time. If not they should have bounced.

Fairly consistent behaviour. When he appeared on Jimmy Fallon in 2013 he made the whole audience stick around while he reviewed the footage and confirmed he was happy for it to be broadcast (although I don't know how long that review took).

It was presented where I read it as something that was out of the ordinary and slightly weird, but ok then.

Prince has been in the business since the 70s. He has practically every award out there. He has done things that no one else has done or is going to be able to do. There has never even been an artist like him. Over the last 5 decades, no one on Earth has been able to touch him. He is the epitome of a living legend.

Do you really think we some ridiculous rumor started by someone who isnt worthy of Prince's attention actually matters to him? And shoudl it matter to a true admirer and life long fan of Prince?

Gotta love how half the posters in this thread claim it's BS (because their hero Princey gets attacked) and the other half claims these demands are normal, again to defend their hero Princey.

.

Only a few point out the likely truth: that most of the demands are accurate (as proven by riders available on site slike The Smoking Gun IIRC) but that there's a bit of excaggeration.

.

Prince fandom in a nutshell, thus.

There is nothing there thats not "normal". It's written using inflamitory language like "held captive". To make it sound demanding when in actual fact it's perfectly normal for a venue to keep staff in the building as long as it's open. Fabric is used as a quick and easy way to ponce up a dressing room. Did Prince "demand" a copy of the tape or did he just ask for it like he does after every(?) gig? The word "demand" evokes an image of Prince pointing and shouting. These are written requests made by the artist.

I think it was the Musicology tour rider that ended up on the smoking gun? Again. there isn't anything very extravagant... if there is it's not on paper. Food to be covered and all beverages unopened were his strangest requests I think?

I'm sure the riders he had in the 80s were far more interesting.

We have seen the riders on the Smoking Gun. What have you seen in those riders that is out of the ordinary? ' He is not asking anyone to put in bowls of purple MMs. All stars have riders and nothing in Ps is out of the ordinary. Newsflash this is a fan board.

idk but I think if any fan was a genius, or had Princes' fame and status, they'd do the same type of thing. Standing in someone else's shoes gives a whole new perspective. It would seem more strange to me if he asked for no special treatment or protection.
