AOA and PE

After many years, well since about 1986, these will be the last 2 albums I'll buy by Prince until he gets a proper producer and hands it over to someone who can help him release a proper sounding album."Uptown funk" took 7 months to finish but was worth all the time, makes me smile every time I hear it!.But the first part of my post is a sad day 4 me.

In 1986, "Parade" made me a fan for life. Then the bootlegs.

The only reason I hold onto "Mplsound", " Rave", or "Plectrum" is the completest in me.

I think he's still capable of knocking out some interesting tunes, but he's WAY too bitter, prematurely senile, arrogant, self-absorbed and self- destructive to put together a truly fine album.

Its a shame those good songs are rotting in the vault out of some weird spite towards the world.

"Uptown Funk" is great! more fun than just about any Prince song since '86!

What makes Uptown Funk sound better than The Gold Standard?

Which is better, Uptown Funk or Word Up by Cameo? Cameo by a few hundred miles. Uptown funk is just to much music rehash with out something new added for me.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Romeoblu

i'd take The Gold Satndard over Uptown Funk.

If Prince released Uptown Funk people would just say it was rehash.

I don't know if it's garbage but I find it
forgettable. I've heard it like 3 times and
it goes in one ear and out the other. It
doesn't stick. There are plenty of songs out
that I don't like but they can still get stuck
in my head. Uptown Funk is like
trying to hold onto fog.

What makes Uptown Funk sound better than The Gold Standard?

The production and the song, that's just about it.

I'd take The Gold Standard over a colour-by-number "funk" song like Uptown Funk anyday.

Bruno Mars is way too formulaic, it's what ruins most of his stuff. The tra-tatatatataas that punctuate the chorus build ups are screaming "Check me out, I'm trying to be massively funky here" don't work because before he'd resort to such a superbad/jb feature, he should prove he can do interesting subtle funk. Instead he comes right in with the predictable horn stabs.

It's like trying to make an old time disco song and starting with a rhythm track not too unlike I Will Survive -- just too easy and unchallenging.

Ok I'll rephrase my question: what makes the production of Uptown Funk better tha the production of The Gold Standard?
