Not a muslim myself but I just noticed that the intro of All Day, All Night starts with Wendy saying something in Arabic, including the Islamic creed or Shahada, before she switches to German ("Ich liebe dich, ich liebe dich").

It struck me, as I have listened to this song so many times in the past 25 years or so, and I never realized she was actually speaking Arabic.

As far as I know, nor Wendy nor any other member of The Revolution was a muslim in 1984, so I wonder why she declared this text. As the studio version is based upon the recording of the June 7, 1984 concert in 1st Avenue, and both recordings contain this part, she must have prepared this for the concert. Bizarre ... Any thoughts ?

Why wouldn't he? He used 'Our Father'. Both religions are strikingly similar.
It could just as well mean fuck-all of course.

You mention this as bizarre, I reckon if I played a tape with many quotes of things you have said in your life I can also find something obscure or dubious with the views of today.

Are you sure it's Arabic? If so that's very interesting, I don't think anyone's every identified it as such before, I've often heard lyrics pages on the internet and occasionally people here refer to it as French, which I didn't think was true at all. I'll try and find a recording of the Shahada to listen to for comparison.

I'm sure it's Arabic, and I'm pretty sure it's the Shadada ("la ilaha illallah wa muhammad rasulullah"). Like I said, I'm not a muslim but I've studied - and still study - Modern Standard Arabic for many years. And this is, although with a heavy English accent, Arabic. Even the words she says after the Shahada and before "Ich liebe dich" are Arabic, but difficult to understand : "la naarif abadan", which means something like "we never know".

I speak French as well, and I can assure you it's not French at all.

I've always wondered about this too because "La ilah illah Allah..." was the same thing I heard.

It means "I love You" in German. Simple as that.
