"Raspberry Beret" was on the torture list for detainees???

http://www.motherjones.co...e-playlist

Music has been used in American military prisons and on bases to induce sleep deprivation, "prolong capture shock," disorient detainees during interrogations—and also drown out screams. Based on a leaked interrogation log, news reports, and the accounts of soldiers and detainees, here are some of the songs that guards and interrogators chose. Read about the guards here.

Deicide: Fuck Your God

Dope: Die MF Die, Take Your Best Shot

Eminem: White America, Kim

Barney & Friends: theme song

Drowning Pool: Bodies

Metallica: Enter Sandman

Meow Mix: commercial jingle

Janeane Garofalo/Ben Stiller: chapter from the Feel This Audiobook

Sesame Street: theme song

David Gray: Babylon

AC/DC: Shoot to Thrill, Hell's Bells

Bee Gees: Stayin' Alive

Tupac: All Eyez On Me

Christina Aguilera: Dirrty

Neil Diamond: America

Rage Against the Machine: unspecified songs

Don McLean: American Pie

Saliva: Click Click Boom

Matchbox Twenty: Cold

(hed)pe: Swan Dive

Prince: Raspberry Beret

Had he known this, Prince could have sent them a cease and desist letter and shut down Guantànamo years ago.

ZOMG I used to listen to a ton of audio books. That one was absolutely the worst, hands-down. Whoever picked that one out is a cruel sadist indeed.

In the "So catchy you'll eventually hate it if you overlisten to it", Raspberry Beret ranks high.

Still keep in mind -- this was not the only thing they did to these individuals.

Really rather sad when you think about it, a song that we love so much being used for such a disgusting and awful purpose. I supose pretty much any music played at a sufficient volume and for a sufficient length of time will become grating to the point of torture though.

Hopefully it was the HDTracks mastered version. Otherwise that's just cruel.

Had they sent "Jughead" or "The Wedding Feast," We would have got Bin Laden years earlier, and at a much lower cost.

Yeps, the song itself is irrelevant. The principle of sleep deprivation is loud noise combined to bright light, closed enviroment and loosing the sense of time. Your sensors can't rest when loud noise ( anything in loud volume is noise ) and light or even strobolights are constantly on. Anxiety, fear, uncontrolled emotions etc. are the endresult and soon you'll cinfess anything.

Horrifying to think this torture happened at all. No crucial intelligence was obtained, it has only served to destroy human decency.

I agree. A covert CIA operation they attempted to cover up because they knew it didn't produce any real information.

And...drum roll...Satan himself(Dick Cheney) is once again out-front defending their actions in the name of "security". Unfortunately, the American bullshit media went along with this by doing nothing and still can't find their way to ask the right questions and put these political cowards on trial.

I read years ago they would blast death metal and Barry Manilow songs to annoy detainees.

So I take this article with a grain of salt.

Apparently, the rumor mill has been busy again.

Barry Mannilow for sure should have been on that list as well. Imagine having to listen to Copacobana non-stop. I'd hang myself. wink lol

well "Raspberry Beret" is infuriatingly catchy.

However, any song played again and again and again would torture the shit out of me lol

Those detainees got to listen to the awesome 2Pac "All Eyes On Me"?!?! How in the hell is that considered a torture? Hell they should had just played Prince's "Planet Earth" album on endless repeat! Now that's torture!
