heart An Absolute favorite, When i play outtakes this, it always makes the list

Open Book

U said my heart's just like an open book
But there are lines U've never seen
U said that U could tell in a single look
But U never looked in between
Sometimes I wanted 2 keep U, sometimes I wanted your love
But I've awakened 2 the reality that sometimes is not enough
Oh, our separate dreams pulled us our separate ways
We were so different from the very start
2 me it was 4ever, 2 U it was just a phase
I'll give back your name if U give back my heart

CHORUS:

U said U'd take me 2 another world
I said U were only posing
U'd never be able 2 read this girl
So the open book is closing, closing, closing
Closing

Sometimes it felt so natural, sometimes it felt so right
It doesn't seem fair that U and I ever had a fight ... no!
Sometimes I wanted 2 keep U, sometimes I wanted your love
But I've awakened 2 the reality that sometimes is not enough
Oh, now your touch is a reminder like the thorns upon a rose
The beauty is mine if I can stand the cut

Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow
I will take my place, In the great below

This is one of those songs that Prince should have kept for himself. It's too good to give away.

Martika would have given the song some visibility had she released it but it was really a damn waste throwin' that song on a Jevetta Steele album no one in the world bought save hardcore prince fans sad (and God that album as a whole wasn't a memorable one!)

It's clearly sung over a basic track as there's nothing interesting going on musically and there are some obvious gaps for solos or motifs. Even so, I love the vocal melody and never tire of listening to this song. I just wish it were available in perfect quality.

Nice little song with sincere lyrics and vocals, be good if it leaked in better quality

always has been a favourite of mine...and proof, th at at his centre, he is a great songwriter.

Has anyone heard that song on Marktika's album that has similar lyrics? It's as if they wrote it together to soem degree but he went his way and she went her's.

Anyway, Jevetrtra's is nice but Prince just uses that magic of his to make this great.

This is one of those songs that most of my friends immediately liked upon first hearing , not even knowing that it´s Prince. It´s a beautiful song.

I´d love to see an album of revisited songs that he wrote for other artists. It would be so cool if he´d just release an album with those demo versions or with rearranged versions.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

obviously written for a female with this line: "U'd never be able 2 read this girl"

but i suppose it could be a man saying "you'll never read me, girl"

Great song and great to hear it in perfect quality on the Perfect Unreleased Prince set. What year is it though? I originally thought 1986, but it sounds much later like around 1991 or 1992?

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I like Jevetta, she needed a better producer than Levi though. Prince version is way better, same with Get Blue. I love his outtakes, would be awesome if they were compiled and released at some point.

I remember first hearing this on the Yellow boot back in the day and being blown away. The music isn't the best, but the lyrics and the delivery take it to another level.

This song would have been a smash hit if Prince had released his own version back then.Hell, this song could still be a hit today...it's that good.
