Not to be a d!ck, but I think your signature pretty much sums up your post.

.

Great by what standards you ask? Great by our own dayum standards. We don't just listen to Prince here, we listen to all sorts of music, we all have differesnt tastes. I don't need sales charts, top album charts, critics or 'experts' on Prince.org to tell me what good music is to my ears, all I need are my ears alone. If you don't like it then fine, move on, if you do great, enjoy. I don't think it's a groundbreaking album but it isn't complete sh!t either, it's a solid album.

.

Prince is an artist, let the man do his thing, we're all passengers along for the ride, not his mechanics.

I don't think it's a groundbreaking album but it isn't complete sh!t either, it's a solid album.

I don't argue that this is not a solid album, but to my ear, and of course each ear being different, this is not what I expected after a four year no album break from the man.

Solid yes, and also forgettable.

(and lol, btw, hollywood is a nickname someone else came up for me, that has nothing to do with the place in LA, and was derived from a joke. I have been to that crap hole in LA, though, and it sucks.)

Absolutey agree there, definitely not what I expected either.

A.O.A. blew me away when Eye first heard the snippets of it! Eye am so proud of prince . To still be able to come up with a fresh, organic sound after over 35 years in the business is astonding. A.O.A stays on rotation while i'm working out this body. It gives me so much energy. D's album is too mellow, although good...

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

I just saw a D'Angelo commercial on television, for his new album. At least, D was smart, as far as that goes.

I have yet to see one commercial for either Art Official Age or PlectrumElectrum.

What is Prince's deal?

It's sad to see how each topic related to sales and charts always end on a debate about the quality or not of an album.eek

Charts, airplay, sales have nothing to do with the quality of an album. Remember the time when Nsync and Britney Spears dominated the charts ? AOA could have been a hit if Prince promoted it properly, I have no doubt about it. We can say that about everything he released since Purple rain. Everything.

He lost many fans on the run, but he could have attracted a large audience in this project, especially if they had created an "hype" about the re-release of PR.

But when you say, quoting just actual sales and charts that "this album was a flop", people are acting mad, they talk to you about "it is a damn good album", "you are racist" eek or " the flop is well deserved".

What people love or hate about the album has nothing to do on a sales topic. Some people don't understand that. There is already threads here related to the album, or each tracks separately, or even several topics about ONE song.

Plectrum was a flop, statistically, it's his SECOND LOWEST SELLING ALBUM OF ALL TIME.

AOA is not a flop but not a success...

OK you're just repeating yourself man... What else do you want to say, you've been saying the same thing for the past 2 months here...

True that, PLEC was a huge flop, even if it's a topic here about AOA.

Statistically AOA is a flop too, it's not even on the 250 best selling albums of the year in the USA, and surely NOWHERE in the world. This is a pure fact. AOA sold less than NPS, CHAOS, CRYSTAL BALL, etc, even if you would add the PLEC ELEC sales to it, which would be a silly idea, but why not ?

For the fact that I'm repeating myself, I'm only answering to the questions and insults toward me, without bad faith and dishonesty. If only everybody here could do the same thing, it would be great.

IIRC, you were also repeating many times that BATMAN sold 11 millions worldwide, twice as much as what it really sold.lol

BLACK MESSIAH, without a charting single sold during its first week as much as PLECTRUM +AOA sold in 3 months. And I wouldn't have believe that D ANGELO had more fans than Prince.

That is not fiction, that is the sad reality.

He doesn't seem to care as much about quality as much as quantity of units sold, which is not why I'm here, but what this thread has turned into, which originally started as chart placement praise, but most positive threads here generally turn to sh!t relatively quickly.

he's only speaking with a smiley, and he 's right. eek In what kind of world are we here...

The fact that AOA is good or not has nothing to do with a topic based on charts and sales. Like I said, there are several topics here about each of the song of AOA album.

I don't understand how facts hurt some people here, that's silly

When you're talking about a chart, no matter how amazing it seems to you, it's all about copies sold. It's not about how much you love the album, or how much you dislike it.

And at the top of the charts, these are mainly not good albums, but pure crap. This is not new.

EVERY topic about sales and charts, turn into shit like what are the flavors of the members, which is really not the topic.

I didn't said any negative things here, I even said that AOA could have been a hit if promoted properly by Prince. Amazing to see how some people are hurt when you are focusing on something that has nothing to with the quality of the music, on a topic that has nothing to do with...the qsuality of the music.

It's the same stupidity like on a topic based on a song appreciation, I would say " this song is crap because it didn't sell".

Well, let me think...Maybe because every thread I post are about charts and sales ?

Maybe because I'm answering to the posts adressed to me, in all honesty ?

And you, what is wrong with you ?

In my world, people that are nuts are the ones who insults other, say you are a racist because you tell them that AOA is a huge flop, talk only with a smiley, doesn't accept when they are wrong, have no sense of humour, etc.

If you don't know what to do here, if you are bored, there is numerous post based on a song "do you like it or not " as if it was interesting to know if somebody that you don't even know are liking a song or not.

razz

There is also a new thread " learn me to know how to listen to Emancipation" or something like that, and several people are there to give their ideal tracklist from EMANCIPATION. As if the guy doesn't know how to listen an album, and is going to listen every tracklist that he is given to. How boring.

eek

Tastes from people I don't know doesn't interesting me. If they like it, good for them. I prefer talking with unknown people about facts. If it's lame to you, then keep on talking on other threads about what song you like, about what are your top 10 favorite album besides the W1980/88 era, etc.

I don't like AOA especially, but I don't think that's the reason it flopped.

There has been no commercial hit and nothing from it has gained traction (yet). Beyond the hardcore most people haven't given it more than a cursory listen at best. To think otherwise is delusion. Great album though.

Of course without a hit, you can't expect an album selling millions.

But the first weeks of sales should have been higher than 50 k AOA and 25 k PLEC. How explaining that D ANGELO, an obscure artist, much obscure than Prince, sold 115 k ex of BLACK MESSIAH in its first week in the US, without a hit, without a huge fanbase. That is more than AOA + PLEC three months of sales, in only one week.

Dude D'angelo has been missing for almost 15 YEARS! It's a no brainer, that he would have sold larger . His fans have been anxiously waiting for him to come back. prince, just up to a few short years ago released an album a year for over 35 years! His fans have never had to wait as long 4 new product. Even when prince didn't release a new album he was still throwing new cuts at us.

Not to mention the hundreds of bootlegz U people collect of him.

Stop downplaying prince's legacy! D'angelo, although I'm a fan of his also, is NOWHERE near prince's legacy. Even if he sold first week sales of over a million. He will never catch up with him.

I wonder if Prince's back catalogue of core hits got a bump in sales/streams when he released the new albums? Be interesting to see if the figures were available. If Prince went away for 15 years then he'd probably sell a lot in week one, hit song or not. People are used to him having supposed 'comebacks' at this point.
