Can we get a simple distribution request out to Prince and/or Warner Brothers?

This is a simple but in my opinion important request on behalf of all the fans of Prince that still buy music in CD format.

We get that jewel cases have basically become extinct because it's cheaper to distribute CD's with gatefolds/cardboard sleeves.

However, when they manufacture gatefolds/cardboard sleeves could they PLEASE position the sleeve opening so that it's facing inside, next to the fold in the middle?

I say this because when I bought Prince's latest CDs (and Lenny's too) the sleeve openings faced outward rather than inward, and as a result each CD is constantly sliding out which is irritating as hell, not to mention the scratches from them falling out.

And no the solution is not simply to ditch CDs for digital downloads, I'm Old School and I'll change when I'm good and ready! razz

If the cd slides out towards the middle you have to bend the case backwards to get the disc out, rubbish. But what do I know, I have everything digital now anyway.

RIP sad

Damn, I thought this thread would be about all us fans chipping in to buy the PR 30th Anniversary boxsets, currently residing in a warehouse until they are destroyed.

Do you think Prince will actually be able to get someone else to release another cd for him? My guess would be no as his last few have really bombed!! I think he should just do his own website and pay per download and cut out the need for a label.

That's what I used to think about vinyl lol While total album sales are down 15%, vinyl is up 40%. Everything old is new again.

There's two ways of doing it, either a single fold with the sleeve opening toward the middle ... or a double fold with the CD sleeve facing outward only when it's completely unfolded, like below on the right.

I'm not sure CD's will ever enjoy the same joy of hip nostalgia vynil do now, + vynil were for the most part preserved by the DJing industry during the 90's and 00's, they may have entirely disappeared if not for DJ's. However it's likely there will always be SOME CD's, hell they even still print cassettes, at least for the next 50 years or so, but they will become such a marginal object that few albums will make it to CD and when they'll do it'll be relatively limited prints. I know LOTS of people and about only 5% of them at the very most still buy CD's, and at the pace we're going there soon won't be a single record store left in Lyon, the second biggest city in France.

just buy clear, resealable cd sleeves. they then also protect your digipacks from shelf wear.

.

http://www.amazon.com/Resealable-Plastic-Wrap-Sleeves-Pack/dp/B000Q1N54Q/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1417994463&sr=8-7&keywords=cd+clear+sleeves

.

your not going to change the record industry in any way, besides, its the same as owning vinyl. they make sleeves for those as well.

Even though I also still buy them, CDs are an obsolete format. They only hold so much information, and are locked into a certain definition. High-definition (or at least CD-quality) downloads in all ways are the better option for digital.

.

Some people will always want to "own" something, even if the ownership model has changed considerably. Spotify, etc. have changed the game.

I think Master P might release a Prince album for him. I would love to see this.
