Prince's Over the Top Hype of associates is a Turnoff

I love the 3rdEyegirl band. I think that the new band is refreshing and when they stay within their element, they put on an amazing live show. But, I have grown to like the band less because of the contant over the top promotion of the band by Prince. He thinks that it is a good look because he is deflecting attention away from him and to others, but it actually has the opposite effect.

The same is true with his associated artists. I hated Andy Allo because of his constant over the top promotion of her until I actually listened to her album and his constant hype stopped. I now absolutely love her. I was cold on Bria also for the same reasons because I felt like he was forcing her on me, but the album was actually pretty good to me after I started tuning out the hype.

Heck, I loved me some Larry Graham, until Prince started going way over the top with the promotion of him.

The list goes on and on. But, note that he never went over the top with The Time. He was scared of those dudes.

I'm actually tired of the new Prince proteges.

Bria Valente,Andy Allo, and now 3rdEyeGirl bored The idea of Prince producing a female artist (or a group of females) is just not exciting anymore.Been there, done that.None of these projects ever make a real impact.

I think Hannah is very good. Would like to see her stay as Prince's drummer.

I'd feel bad if he's ditched the other two for their own sakes. They seem like good people but cant say I'm all that broken up about it musically.

Too much hype can have negative effects:)

But on the other side, maybe people would not listen to them at all if there would not been any hype...

I really liked Andy Allos album...

Really bad was the hype for Plectrumelectrum....all in all an dissapointing album in contrary to AOA, which was a really a great album without any hype before...

Agree with you about Andy Allo. I didn´t like her as a member of the NPG because she barely played guitar nor was she audible as a singer but I like her parts on AOA and I really like that song she did with Miguel Mig, and I really dig her version of We Can Funk with Prince playing acoustic guitar. Although I still think renaming it Oui Can Luv is a bit silly...We Can Love would´ve been better. I wonder if there´s a version out there which is sung from a girl´s perspective.....because Andy´s version is unfortunately sung from a male perspective, which is rather odd.

Prince endorsing his proteges is like a double-edged sword these days...on the one hand it´s probably good promotion because some would never be heard of at all if it wasn´t for him but then again sometimes his promotion can be a bit too much and make the proteges get on my nerves.

I also agree about the Bria album. It´s not exactly an album I often listen to but it has a very cohesive sound and she´s not as bad as people say. I actually think it was a decent slow RnB album.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

if im onterested in the band i'll research on my own to find out about them. i'm only in it for prince. i loved sheila, she was a strong strong asset and i knew about her before she hit with prince and she was the only one who really brought someting unique...thers no one like her....but other than that i dont care for the proteges - i find them a waste of princes energy - he doesnt need t give every cutie an album project does he? its tiresome.
