Dave Grohl Remembers Jamming with Prince

Remember when Prince covered the Foo Fighters song "Best of You" during the 2007 Super Bowl halftime show? As it turns out, that wasn't the last time Dave Grohl and the Purple One have crossed paths.

"Three years ago, Prince books 21 nights at the Forum [in Los Angeles]. I can't f**king wait. I go to the first show, in a party bus with all my friends, boozing it up," Grohl tells Rolling Stone. "I walk into the Forum Club and bump into somebody from a road crew I'd work[ed] with before. He says, 'Prince knows you're here. He wants to jam.' The end of the night, I'm standing next to this black curtain. I pull it back -- there's Prince with Sheila E. I go, 'Hey, man, great show.' He says, 'When do you want to jam? How about Friday?' All right, cool!"

The next week, Grohl shows up at the Forum only to be told Prince was feeling under the weather. However, before he's about to leave, "Prince just appears," Grohl says, and invites Dave to play drums with his band.

"We start playing. He's got the whole band up there, throwing chord changes with his fingers, conducting the band as we're jamming," Grohl remembers. "I can't believe this is happening. And it's happening in a completely empty Forum. Then he puts on a guitar and starts playing [Led Zeppelin's] 'Whole Lotta Love'. It's f**kin' bad-ass. We do that for 10 minutes. It slays. He says, 'We should do that, man. What are you doing next Friday?'"

"I never heard from Prince again," he says. "But I swear it happened. I swear. And nobody saw it."

This story has been around before. I think there's a You Tube video with Grohl talking about it. It would've been great to have them do Darling Nikki with Grohl on drums. I don't care if Prince changed the lyrics to "playing around with a magazine" and "When I saw Little Nikki Dance.." Imagine the SOTT band with Grohl and Sheila on drums, and Vernon Reid on Guitar...and Victor Wooten on bass...sure it wouldn't really be the SOTT band, but get Eric Leeds, Atlanta Bliss...yeah, I know...yet another pipe dream.

I wish this would have happened. I've always just loved Grohls admiration for Prince.

Obviously it goes both ways which is cool...

These guys need to jam together LIVE in front of an audience...

I know, he's always making up these stories agbout how he had Paul McCartney join his band, or started a band with someone that was in Zeppelin, it's all bullshit. He jams with the guy from the liquor store down the street that looks like McCartney.

Paul McCartney is a big douche as well.

They should just start a band with Bono to complete the awfulness

I'm not - Dave Grohl is incredibly overrated. I know he plays with lots of famous people but that doesn't mean I have to like him or think he is cool

No ones asking you to like him, but to say that "he's always making up stories" is just plain ignorance on your behalf.

.

McCartney DID record with him on Cut Me Some Slack just last year.

And John Paul Jones from Led Zepplin DOES play with Grohl in the band Them Crooked Vultures.

And all the other stories you've heard him talk about are in fact true, hence his current status.

.

So, avoid the embarrassment and get your facts right before bagging out a rock legend next time.

.

And tbh with you, what Grohl has done in the past few years is better than anything P has done since The Gold Experience.

.

So if anything, this post should be about how P remembers jamming with Dave.

wink

Huh? You obviously didn't read my post - I never said he is "always making up stories". I simply said he is a douche and this may not have happened. Maybe it did but there is no proof - Prince has never talked about it.

And no. Lotusflower is much better than anything Dave Grohl has ever done

Sorry, quoted wrong post.

.

But seriously, why would someone make up such a story and tell it in front of cameras and 40,000 people?? confused

.

And the way he is now, I'd say that P wins the battle of the Douche by a mile!

And whats this Lotusflower you speak of?? biggrin

Dave has been a Prince fan for years. He's a super nice guy, not a douche at all. Here he is on the Howard Stern show talking about Prince today (Dec. 3) around the 15:40 mark. Got this from Dr. Funkenberry by the way.

Sounds like Howard baits Dave into talking about Prince just so he could rag on how big an asshole Prince is. I'd like to hear Dave and Prince jam together, the would be epic.

Totally Howard is so full of himself is sad. Its awesome how Dave just keeps it on point and continues to praise Prince while Howard tries to get him to say something negative.

Howard rarely says anything good these days about him, he called the SNL performance "distrubing" on his show a few weeks ago.
