I'm so glad I'm a Prince Fan Because...

he has such a deep catalog.

the endless outtakes.

the live shows.

the eclectic legacy.

the work ethic and determination.

the fact so few (if any) of his contemporaries can match his (released and unrealeased) output.

the staunch independence.

the trailblazing, both musical and business.

What's your reason?

Because of all the years of wonderful art and so far he's still creating art I love or really like.

these qualities make prince my favorite rtist

he has personality, music, dance, art and writing talents to name a few

seems to have a really creative outlook on life

he's a free thinker, challenges the status quo in many ways

he's funny!

he's generous - the concerts and those parties for us at the park cool

he's a quirky trend setter

seems to be a union/contrast of rebellious punk/angelic saint

his world changing contributions to the rts

Everything you said +

Because everytime I listen to his music I learn something on life, on me.
Because every new album is a surprise and so different from other ones.
Because it's all about Wonder: God, Music, Sex and Romance.

Everything you said. Well done.

Also, I continue to admire the risks he takes. His career has had so many twists and turns. It's rarely boring. I love it!

Yes, I am very critical of his business decisions, and a million other annoying things I won't get into here.

I'm glad I'm a fan because of the limitless joy his music has brought me. So many moments of sorrow turned to clarity by the pressing of play on a cd player, or earlier in life, by putting the needle on the record. More than just the soundtrack of my life. Simply the blueprint for my own creativity in songwriting, giving me the confidence to overcome serious social anxiety and shyness...taking the passion Prince puts in his work, and applying the same passion in multiple aspects of my life.

But despite all the seriousness in my post, the joy of hearing the sounds go through my soul, making me feel such strong emotions within when taking a road trip, and almost becoming part of the recording...or so it seems. It's that deep. And though his live shows are not always what I want them to be...the weakest Prince show still has a moment or two where the best moments transcend to a level no musician on the planet can reach. It's just Prince.

I'm glad i'm a Prince fan for many reasons but at the top of the list today (may be something else on other days) would be because no matter how i'm feeling there's a song I can listen to for that mood and more than likely not just a song but a GREAT song!!

"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Make that, very often, several songs for almost all major emotions and "life topics": love, envy, jealousy, sorrow, anger, lust (tons!), solidarity, regret, salvation, redemption...

So not all the songs are absolute Grade A masterpieces, some are on the pedestrian side, owing to his "recording addiction". I love J.S. Bach and he wrote, among other pieces, so many cantatas because it was his job to write some almost weekly for a long time. Not all the cantatas are spectacular "call all your friends" compositions but man, are they a monumental accomplishment taken as a whole. I feel the same about Prince. And you can't say "Oh this guy is like the Grateful Dead, so many records, same vibe" -- because he chose eclecticism and avoided that trap, at least to a large extent.

Shockedelicus

  • His ridiculously huge catalogue in the 80's alone.
  • No one else sounds like him, despite the decades of imitators.
  • There are so many versions of the songs I love that I can't possibly get tired of them.
  • He has an album called Batman. What isn't awesome about that?
  • Bootlegs, bootlegs, bootlegs.

RJOrion

because it seems like, from the beginning of his career, he's always seemed to say the same things i would have said, had i been blessed to be a recording artist...his albums have become the soundtrack of my adult life...

the unforgettable and iconic guitar solos
the inimitable rhythm guitar timing and feel
the endless array of ethereal synthesizer melodies and effects

the greatest singular artist/entertainer/musician in the history of all history..

Because now that Prince has vanished from social media, he can be our little secret again.
