would u share unreleased Prince songs with a casual fan?

Would u share unreleased Prince songs to a friend who's just a casual fan? I kinda feel like people who ars just fans of the hits won't appreciate the unreleased gems as much as we do.I have this friend and I've been thinking about sharing a unreleased song but would kinda feel weird about doing it cuz he doesn't own any Prince albums,he just downloads a few of the songs that's been heard on the radio a million times like kiss,1999,and when doves cry.so should I share some unreleased songs or keep them to myself? Also, has anybody shared a unreleased song with a casual fan and got a positive or negative response? Please share if u did

I think anyone who digs psychedelic pop would dig All My Dreams, everyone who digs funk would dig Wonderful Ass... it's just a matter of personal taste. For sure it's silly to share a seemiingly unfinished track like AMerican In Paris with a non-hardcore fan, but there are some gems among the unreleased songs. Sound quality also matters I guess, low-quality is mostly for hardcore fans.

er

I did this years ago: made a cassette for somebody who liked Prince (mostly the Purple Rain LP) I can't recall what I put on it, but it must have been stuff like Electric Intercourse, Extra Lovable etc. He wasn't impressed. But Old Friends 4 Sale was well liked by folks who heared it.

Personally I dont go out my way to share unrealsed tracks, Though i may indicated that i have tons of the stuff

I've meet and known people who say that are BIG fans! and im sure they are in their own minds,
But they are clueless to some offical albums, B-sides yet any outtakes, this should be a big indicator
I doubt a casual fan would appreciate or even know you are playing an extended, rare, remix, unreleased, alt tracks

Databank stated Quality nod
If you are going turn someone on to outakes don't play the shity sounding stuff, you may turn them off instantly

But seeing you want to share hmmm
Test the waters. Tell them you got unrealsed stuff and gauge their interest, maybe play a few songs
It might spark a conversation or could go nowhere really fast lol
Maybe burn them a cd

lol Well i do question how he/she plans to introduce the unreleased music Maybe files, transfer, cd?
I would find it awkward to tell someone "i got unreleased muic, now sit here and listen to it" lol

Usually when I give music to friends (unless they live on the other side of the world) it's more like they ask me "Can u copy some music on my pendrive?" or I t'ell 'em "Gimme ur pendrive and I'll give u some music" wink

I think if I gave a CD to someone they'd look at me as oddly as if I had given them a cassette lol lol lol

For the 2004 Tonight Show appearance (when Mel Gibson was the first guest), my girlfriend and I were in line for quite a while before the show. I had my iPod with me that was loaded with all of The Work, the NPGMC files and a few other boots.

.

I shared what I could via headphones . . . if I had had a portable speaker, more people could've listened. Not too many of the "hardcore" fans in line had heard anything from The Work.

probably not (depends on the 'casual fan' & their musical tastes though). Although when CB came out I played The Ride for one of my friends & he was shocked that it was Prince, totally changes his outlook on the dude, but that wasn't really unreleased, just my closest example.

Good to know. It's a very dangerous process. Let's not do it anymore, then, official releases will do nod

I'll ONLY share unreleased stuff. Most of my coworkers know I'm a huge Prince fan and I've had a couple ask me to copy things like Purple Rain or the latest album for them and I tell them if they want released stuff they can go out an buy it.

I haven't right out told anyone, "This is an unreleased Prince song" and had them listen, but I have played several unreleased songs in my car with friends present and more than once they have asked me to play it again or asked who it was because they liked it. Moonbeam Levels seems to go over well, especially with the better quality out now. My sister, who is a "casual fan" asked me to put it on her phone. My mom, who was a fan back in the day but doesn't pay attention anymore, loved Adonis & Bathsheba and Love Never Has to Say Goodbye after I played them for her.
I would never not share with someone based simply on the fact that they may only know a few songs. We all only knew a few songs at one point. It doesn't make me feel special to hoard something I had no part in creating. Casual or not, we're all here for the same reason

Last month I discovered that one of my wife's friends is a "casual-plus" fan of Prince. So I just put together a 2 GB DVD-R of stuff that the general public isn't aware of. He should be getting it in a week or so... I'll be curious to hear what he thinks of all that awesome purpleness.

I'm often surprised by the fans who consider themselves hardcore but don't get into unreleased stuff and live shows. I don't mean to be a dickhole, but it's like holy shit you people are missing SO MUCH.

I agree. Some of my favorite Prince songs are unreleased.

Depends on what they're into. If they're only a casual fan they won't know the difference between a track from a bootleg, a deep album cut, or a rare b-side or digital single. I'll pull from any source to put together a set that might interest them.

I think that Introducing music to people can be a powerful thing, but can also fall flat. I consider myself quite a fan but I remember distinctly how I felt when I heard Providence for the first time, it was officially released but over looked by some. The long version of crucial is still one of my favourite songs. But I always feel a bit sad when I play something I consider beautiful to someone and they shrug.
