Planet Earth, 20Ten, Animal Kingdom are all tied for being toilet paper worthy albums. I'm so glad I didn't buy any of those stinkers. I heard the albums from a friend, and fast forward through them looking for at least one good (or decent) song.....a wasted effort.

Indigo Nights is a really awful live album... nod

I agree about that.

Why can't Prince release a good live album... very very strange... confused

it's like he is deliberately "under doing" it - not releasing the good stuff.

Due to the fact that every other album has at least one listenable track on it, I'd say 20Ten or AOA.

I've tested it many times during dinner parties with friends at the time and it seems its accessible sound make it enjoyable to non-fans, the whole "soul" thing that's quite proeminent on it. In that regard I think it would have been a "good" live album if targeted at the general audience but the sheer absurdity is that it was sold with an expensive book and aimed only at hardcore fans - who wanted something else.

Prince's live releases have been pretty erractic indeed but have wonderful moments on them, though, and there have been 14 releases by now, either audio or video, which isn't that bad for a 36 years-long career:

85: Double Live 85

87: SOTT 87

89: Lovesexy Live 1 & 2 88

95: The Sacrifice Of Victor 93

99: Beautiful Strange 98 and The War 98

00: Rave Into The Year 2000 99

02: ONA Live 02 and ONA Aftershow 02

03: Aladdin Las Vegas 02

04: C-Note 02

08: Indigo Nights 07

12: New York 98

Now for the content IDK what to think. people here always complain that the releases were not what they shoulda been but what's never been clear to me is what they expect exactly. While I can't say all the releases above have propelled me to the moon, I probably wouldn't even know what to start with if I was to decide what Prince should release next.

Rave, Musicology, 3121, MPLSound, 20Ten - the lineage of shit. Big turds with crunchy peanuts and whole corn kernels, the odd baked bean and tipped with blood, stuck in the U-bend but slowly melting from the body temperature urine they're sitting in.

In Clouds I cringe when near the end the English girl says "Hot" in that upper crust Kate Middleton way.Might sound good to American ears but it really pisses me off.

I'm with you. WTF does that stupid "hot" have to do with the rest?
I can't picture the guy in the studio saying : "OK, let's keep it in the mix".

And that stupid delay makes it worse, it's like it sticks and won't get away.

The pain lasts for maybe 2 seconds, but it's excruciating. Like the coda of Holy River.

Darn, you forgot Detroit '86 again!
And "Love Bizarre" with Sheila E live, which is a performance in itself.
Part of the same package.

I think every era since PR has been documented live, more or less (years are erratic, I don't have time to check Princevault) :

1990 : Tokyo

1991 : Diamonds and Pearls, the video which contains the live studio take of Willin' and Able, and Live 4 Love live.

1992 : I don't think the Act I and Act II have been broadcast...

1994 : The Gold Experience with Nona Gaye,

plus all the TV appearances, which can be rightfully categorized as live.

etc. ....

Darn, you forgot Detroit '86 again! No I didn't, it wasn't ever released.
And "Love Bizarre" with Sheila E live, which is a performance in itself. It's a guest appearance on a Sheila album so I count it as one of those single live tracks released on CD or online. However I'm baffled by the fact that save this particular song no one has ever cared to digitalize and bootleg the whole show sad
Part of the same package. Huh?

I think every era since PR has been documented live, more or less (years are erratic, I don't have time to check Princevault) :

1990 : Tokyo there was also a Spanish TV broadcast of a Spanish show and a Spanish radio broadcast of yet another show. They're both out on boots and the Tokyo show itself exist in several different edits.

1991 : Diamonds and Pearls, the video which contains the live studio take of Willin' and Able, and Live 4 Love live. Yes indeed but so little sad Reportedly, 45 mn of one of the 1991 South-American concert was also broadcast on a Brazilian TV channel back then. The full show is out on boots but not the edited broadcast as such.

1992 : I don't think the Act I and Act II have been broadcast... No but some tracks from prince were performed live during the Ryde Dyvine TV special and several others were made available in a NPG Ahdio Show.

1994 : The Gold Experience with Nona Gaye, here we have some live tracks on both the Beautiful Experience and Love4OneANother TV specials.

plus all the TV appearances, which can be rightfully categorized as live. Absolutely, and there were also loads of live snippets send to TV stations in order to promote the tours, and the Musicology TV special as well as the 21 Nights film sold with that 2000 bucks "Opus" that it seems no one ever bought.

Accoding to BigChick who's a reliable source, several shows from the Triple-Threat and Parade tours at least were also broadcast on a Detroit TV channel, late at night, at the time, but no recording of those seem to have survived save an incomplete part of a Vanity 6 per4mance (it was put on YT for a few days 2/3 years back and vanished ever since, i've never seen it myself). The archives were pillaged by employees of the channel when it shut down years later, so somebody HAS to have those damn tapes!

etc. .... Ever since Prince has started to have an internet presence there's been a plethora of live recordings made available, but always isolated tracks.

Y'all are sleeping on 20Ten. Compassion>Beginning Endlessly are SICK! Rave is his worst by far...though Strange but True is pretty fantastic, as is Undisputed. It's a shit album, with slicky-boy production.

There isn't a single album that I would say I hate, nor dislike for that matter.

But I think MPLSound is probably the one I care for the least.

The Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse aren't far behind.

Actually to be fair, cause there are many "extremists" on here when it comes to Prince's music...

His consistancy releasing "BAD" albums was after the 3121 album...

NPS and RAVE were bad... Musicology and 3121 were average...

But the consistancy started with Planet Earth then Lotusflow3r/MPLS Sound, then 20Ten then Plectrum Electrum...

I think out of those 5 albums I just stated I can only say 3-4 songs are actually good and to Prince's standards... Another Love being one of them.
