say something positive about prince

we're all here for a reason, yeah?

there's something about him that we dig... or we used to dig

let's hear about it

keep the negativity away... there's plenty of other threads for that

surely we can do manage to do it for 1 thread

me?... his diversity blows my mind... from beautiful melodies and playfulness to the most deeply putrid funk imaginable.. all while simply being on 'another level' musically

He's a TRUE Gemini, through and through! When he's good, there's nobody better and when he's bad, there's nobody worse. Umm...yay Prince.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

His music has been a major part of my life's soundtrack for 30 years.

I find more in a bad Prince song that a really good song by most other artists. (Even though when it is really bad, it's terrible).

I think it is amazing that he is still relevant as he is, album sales or no album sales, after almost 4 decades.

I think he could have been the biggest artist in the world for a longer time than he was but his desire to create is stronger than his desire to conform.

I think he is truly a unique artist; there have been new versions, bad, good or indifferent, of Madonna and Bruce and MJ but not Prince.

All good things they say never last...

He's still actively doing his thing. He's still the only guy in music who can do it all at a high level. I'm already looking forward to his next album. We think of Prince as a singer/songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, etc. but he was also MJ's main competition.. at dance... let that sink in for a moment. He was Stevie Wonder's biggest competition. He was Bruce Springsteen's competition. Bon Jovi. Sting. Madonna. Rick. George Michael. It's crazy when you think of how many completely different artists were either looking over their shoulder at Prince gaining momentum on them, or desperately trying to keep up because Prince seemed better at what they did than they were. I don't think anyone in music was so great, at so many things, simultaniously as Prince. Nearly 40 years into his career. There is no one coming up after him, that's a threat to his legacy. Like eventually Katie Perry broke Thriller's sales record, which I know adjusted for their differing eras, she really didn't. But still, that was MJ's biggest accomplishment 35 million sold or whatever the number was. Who the hell is going to beat Prince's main accomplishment? Prince was the biggest rock star/pop star/r&b star/guitar hero/piano player/movie star/songwriter/producer/music mogul/screenwriter/movie director/photographer/who=knows-what-else-i-forgot in the world. biggrin

Hands down, he's the baddest muthaSHUTyoMOUF to ever do music in my opinion.

He has the musicianship and mastery of instruments rivaled only by the likes of Stevie Wonder...

He plays guitar with the best who have ever done it (Hendrix, Hazel, Clapton, Santana, etc.)

He gives you smooth sexy jams and croons in a class with Marvin Gaye or Smokey Robinson....

He can FUNK with the best of them....

His ventures into Jazz are solid efforts...(Madhouse albums, Rainbow Children to name a couple..)

He's a master songwriter and composer who's creative output is unstoppable...

He is one of the most gifted exciting live performers EVER!

His music transcends race and culture......

his sense of style over the years has always been avante-garde and extremely unique...

he's a very intelligent dude...

His name is Prince. And he is FUNKY.
