The more I love AOA, the more I dislike Plectrumelectrum

Releasing both these albums on the same day seems to have divided some fans. The fact that 3EG don't feature on my favourite seems to turn me off PE and 3EG... I remember feeling divided about TRC and 3121 on the org and now it seems to be AOA V PE or maybe it's just me? Of course some fans love or hate them both..

Anyone feel the same? Perhaps the other way round for a lot of you?

I have played PE maybe 2 or 3 times.
AOA's playing frequency is high in the double digits.
I guess that says it all....

I've tried really hard to love PE and played it maybe 6/7 times but AOA must be well into 25/30 listens now... I think I would have loved PE way more if it had come out when they did the gigs in London to promote the record back in February.

I'm the opposite, I love PE. I'm probably the only one here who likes the first 7 tracks of AOA more than the last 6. Oh well smile

I tried to play PE many many times... The only track I can listen to is Another Love. Every other song seems so bland and dated... Glam rock is not in style...

I'm the opposite.

I've been spinning PE daily, whilst I now only listen to selected tracks from AOA. But then I'm a sucker for rock guitar music.

I love the first four cuts on PE.... Wow, Pretzel, Ain'tturninround and PE. One of the best opening sequences of any Prince album IMO. And then you have Another Love, Tictactoe, FunkNRoll, Fixurlifeup.... so many cool cuts.

AOA has too many fillers for me.... Breakfast Can Wait, This Is What It Feels Like, This Could Be Us.... these songs really drag down the second half of the disc for me.

PE was very disapointing for me, that said i now can't stop playing it but it's had some tweaks biggrin.

I really do like AOA but rock Prince is always my favourite and I was looking forward to PE hugely, especially after seeing 3rdEye live and listening to many, many boots. Then the whispers of Prince only being lead on a handful of tracks surfaced and my enthusiasm dropped. No disrespect to Hannah but I'm a Prince fand and as such I enjoy listening to Prince sing.

So when PE arrived I really wanted to enjoy it but there were too many low points for me. Aintturninround, Whitecaps, Stopthistrain (I actually don't mind this one too much), and Boytrouble ill. There's a third of an album which I've tried to like but just can't and so I end up skipping and as a result get a poor feeling from listening to the album as a whole.

Then they released the Empty Room rehearsal. So I replaced Aintturninround with Empty Room, replaced Whitecaps with an edited version of the Screwdriver remix and just eliminated Stopthistrain and Boytrouble. Now I have a ten track album which has been on regular repeat and I've hardly listened to AOA since. I also took the chant off of the start of Pretzelbodylogic and did a bit of volume tweaking so that Empty Room wasn't too quiet to fit.

I used Screwdriver remix because it seems this was recorded with 3rdEye and feels more live, unlike the original single which feels very much like a solo Prince effort to me. I also edited it to stop at the 3:54 mark just after he sings 'you're my screw' and below the ending the first beats of this, Fixurlifeup start to play so that it hits the first strike of the big DuhDuh, as he nears the end of saying screw. I felt like after this point the remix goes off in a non-3rdeye type direction and didn't really fit the flow of the album. I did wonder whether to keep Tictactoe but at that point in the play list it really works.

So I'm left with a 38 minute ten track rocking Prince album.

Wow

Nice tracklist. thumbs up!

I would personally put Aintturninround back on as track 3 (by far the best of the non-Prince tracks and also keeps the energy high for the first four songs) and then put Empty Room where Whitecaps is on the album. Screwdriver remix is a good call, and even though I like Stop This Train, I could live without it on the album. Ejecting Boy Trouble is also a good call.

Wow

Pretzelbodylogic

Aintturninround

Plectrum Electrum

Empty Room

Screwdriver remix

Fixurlifeup

Tictactoe

Funknroll

^^^ That's a killer album right there.

The good thing about having Empty Room as track 3 is that it preserves the Prince staple of a slow track being track 3.

If Aintturninround was an instrumental or had Prince singing I'd be there with you. It's a good track but let down by the vocals for me. I do like the ending. Hmm, thinking about it, I could probably cut off the beginning and keep the ending instrumental part. From about 1:24 the vocals are done and dusted and the rest is pretty awesome. Gonna have a play.

Well, Prince does sing the bridge section. And you can't begrudge the girls one song on the album. The ending is brilliant, very Rainbow Children-esque with those big doomy sounding power chords and Prince's pitch-shifting voice. And it sounds so awesome going into Plectrum Electrum as the next track.

I say keep it and take one for the team.

lol lol

I've had a play with the instrumental ending coming at the end of Plectrumelectrum, seems to work quite well. 6:25 of guitar awesomeness.

PE is Planet Earth, I suggest we call PlectrumElectrum PLEC instead. I love it very much and still don't so much get into AOA, but I listen to them both.

it seems like planet earth and plectrum electrum are vying for most hated ... it's hard to say which 'deserves' the PE anagram .. we could call planet earth Plearth

anyway .. plec has 2 good songs

aoa has about 3 and a half

Plectrumelectrum should have been a live record.
The studio recordings do not bring out the raw energy the band is capable of.

at Paradiso, Amsterdam could have been a great source.

My PE tracklisting omits Boytrouble and Stopthistrain and I've replaced them with Screwdriver and Bourgeoisie and it's Aaah better. I listen to it every day. I've also added Ain't Gonna Miss U When U're Gone after This Could Be Us. It fits, what with the vocal effects and all. smile

Loving AOA way more than PlecElec.

Way more good songs on AOA.

I listen to and love Stop This Train the most, followed by Another Love. Diggin' Boy Trouble more, and Mars.

AOA is the stand out by far to me. Love it all except the title track and The Gold Standard (though the message is good).

I can't tell, I always listen to them back to back, my cousin thought it was just 1 long CD, when I was thinking these CDs are too short, he could have added more tracks to both of them (lol). I must admit I didn't care for too much for Plec in the beginning & really didn't like Fixurlifeup or Pretzelbodylogic to begin with but now I'm really digging them. But Wow, Stopthistrain, White Caps, Anotherlove & Tictactoe, come on now. I can play this all day long on repeat. But I can play AOA all day as well but I skip around it because I have to hear Way Back Home & Time & keep repeating them & then This Could Be Us, The Gold Standard, Breakfast Can Wait, Clouds & U Know in no specific order. I REALLY love both of these CDs. I have the same problem with Dirty Mind vs Controversy, Diamonds & Pearls vs The Symbol album, Come vs The Gold Experience & Lotus Flow3r vs MPLsound. Today it could be this one & tomorrow it'll be the other one. I just can't.

PlectrumElectrum - I enjoy the music for the most part - but I want to hear Prince more...the girls vocals just arent strong enough (toooo shrillllll) to balance the material and I cant help but wish there was a great female rock voice on this album with Prince....so PE is on a lower rotation than AOA...I adore AOA...play it many times a day and cant get enough of it...
