Empty Room rehearsal with 3rdEyeGirl

...was just uploaded on P's channel on a well known video site.

A quick listen at work sounded good. I remember it being an absolute highlight in Brussels last may.

It's good. But I would prefer to hear prince play the solos.
His playing transcends the song somewhere else.

Yes an amazing song but only for die hards. He's got a boat load of new just as equally great music and he needs to play something from AOA or PE

We all know Prince always rehearses ten times more songs than he actually plays, so everything is still open. I wouldn't even be surprised if with two new albums out, he'd decide to play some oldies. Still, something from AOA would be cool.

Probably FunkNroll again or/and She's always in my hair. Its almost alwas same songs with Prince nowdays, he has become very predictable. But I hope he surprise us on SNL

I got it, an 8 minute version of Get On The Boat.

Then a suprising exciting medley of never before played songs:

Take Me With U-Raspberry Beret, and then She's Always In My Hair(slow version)-FunkNRoll (Egg N Roll Remix)

Seriously, Just play two of these: Gold Standard, Way Back Home, Wow, This Could Be Us...

and maybe something old not played often...Computer Blue...but he obviously HATES that...since he never plays it. sad

The best version of "Empty Room" I've ever seen was from that Prince concert dvd for the (professionally filmed) 2009 Prince at Montrenx Jazz Fest. I think Prince was gonna release this dvd, but changed his mind. A couple of couples leaked. Luckily I got a copy. ^_^

This was okay. I felt the guitar was to quiet. Nothing compared to the Montreux 2009 version. You could feel the emotions screaming from that guitar.

I think he's playing this in celebration of the "Blast from the Past 2.0" release, which supposedly contains the original 85 version. Its nice to see Prince supporting new boot releases.

Meh. If he's not doing the solos, why bother? And Hannah brings absolutely no energy to it.

Empty Room is in my top 5 Prince songs. This rendition, not so much.

The original version and Montreux kick serious ass. This is flatt, with two t's.

I like this version a lot with the exception that the solo's (which are the central focus of the song historically) are uneventful. I would hope that if he played this long he'd take over the soloing from Donna. I think maybe he gave it to her here because he was on keys? It'd be my preference for a touring band that he bring in Cassie or Morris so he can spend more time on guitar.

Change it one more time..

You say that but it must have had some extra work done inbetween 93 - 95, it has that NPG sound and production to it

Sounded like Donna on guitar but she doesn't have the flair or arrogance of Prince. The song has been done better but it's a rehersal at the end of the day.
