Prince Live 8 minute Jam

Prince to Play Uninterrupted 8-Minute Jam on 'Saturday Night Live'

By Elias Leight | October 27, 2014 11:00 AM EDT

When Prince plays Saturday Night Live on Nov. 1, he will play one extra-long segment in the middle of the show.

As you're probably aware, most of the musical guests perform two separate songs on SNL, but Prince is not like most musical guests. Instead of two performances, he'll provide the audience with eight full minutes of unadulterated, commercial-free Purple glory.

Chris Rock Looks Back at ...ely Close'

Chris Rock will host the Nov. 1 episode, his first time hosting in 18 years. Prince has been back on SNL more recently -- he played the show in 2006. For his jam session, he'll be accompanied by his band 3rdeyegirl.

Prince Crowns Dual Charts...bums No. 1

Prince has been in a 2-for-1 kind of mood recently. On Sept. 30, he released two albums: ART OFFICIAL AGE, largely a solo effort, and PLECTRUMELECTRUM, recorded with 3rdeyegirl. Both went to No. 1 on the R&B and Rock charts.

"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Let's see........ I bet he plays a reloaded hit and then a new song? Seems to be the way he has been doing stuff. One song that pleases everyone and then another one that just pleases himself. Whatever it is I hope it is not cringe worthy.

8 minutes doesn't sound like much on a 90 minute show. Maybe thats just due to the time he got on Arsenio.

The twitter accounts have tweeted about Clouds being added to their live repertoire. Choreography videos have been tweeted for FunknRoll and Art Official Cage. Making videos for these songs seems utterly redundent now, but who knows.

My bet would be one song from each album and either a past hit or FunknRoll - which would tie in to both albums.

I hope he leaves the NPG Horns at home. 3rdeyegirl would be much more impressive, like Bambi on Fallon last year.

A performer typically gets 2, one song segments. Songs run 4-ish minutes, so this seems just about right.

Yeh I've heard that said. I just thought it'd be longer from the way they billed it.

Only Prince would request that he play one 8 minute set..............and then he is the fuck out of there and away from all those unfunny cast members. I hope Chris Rock is at least funnier than Jim Carrey but I doubt it.

NBC/SNL haven't billed his appearnce any differently than they do any other muscial guest. The press seems to have picked up on it a bit more, but I guess that's due to the relative rarity of his TV appearances.

V10LETBLUES

Even people who don't like his music, new or old, praise Prince's live performances. And as arguably the greatest living performer today, Prince is no doubt going to kill it on Saturday and add another electifying live performance to get asses to his live shows.
I think he could care less about the new albums.

Does anyone find this kind of comment funny? I would think they are so old and tired by now... Well, in case it's just me, here's my contribution: OMG, OMG, I've heard Tony M is back!!!

Um...dude, ain't no need to be mean. Jughead will ALWAYS be funny. I think that, with 10 years of service on this site including the creation of 27 alter egos I am ENTITLED to be ironically corny every once in a while.

FWIW Tony M wil also ALWAYS be funny. As will just about any mention of the feather in GB, Prince's death scene in UTCM, and the inclusion of a furry hat in the travelling Parade band.

Appreciate it. Making fun of Jughead is what separates us from the animals. Actually several animals make fun of the song too.

Back to topic, though, it will be cool to see what Prince does play. Suffice it to say, I don't think we'll be able to predict it. Prince could really make a statement if he comes out and plays something Youtube worthy. Or he could disappoint supremely like with the Paisly Park webcast. Regardless, it will be the first time I have watched SNL in half a decade.
