What tracks are your diamonds in the rough?

Our resident Abe Froman, the Sausage King raised a good topic earlier about albums you have grown to love more and it got me thinking...

What tracks do you think are gems that got hidden in a bad album, the noise of Prince events or eclipsed by bigger singles? Tracks you think are masterpieces, but don't get as many mentions as they deserve.

Prince himself seems to help bring back the love for certain "lost" tracks, when he first revives them in concert, such as Viki Waiting, Ballad of Dorothy, Joy In Repetition, She's Always In My Hair, I Love U In Me etc.

What do you think are masterstrokes often overlooked? I'll try and stick to 10....

With You - Sublime ballad, eclipsed by the big hitters.

Resolution - Beautiful double meaning of world peace and attonement with W&L.

My Computer - If ever there was a hit left in the box.

Comeback - Wonderful tune, that deserves a full outing.

Last December - Amazing, but overclouded by the JV overtones.

Until U're in my arms again - Very sad, with possibly P's most stunning vocal delivery.

Wherever U go, whatever U do - Forever in my life part 2.

Walk Don't Walk - What a laid back groove. Truely original.
East - Musicianship at his very best.
Saviour - One of the best power ballads P ever delivered.

What are the JW references in Last December? I am just curious. It is obviously Christian, but I do not see anything specific to JW in it.

Sorry, didn't mean that the track had JV overtones, but that the JV overtones of the album in general took away the attention from what was simply a great individual track.

Cicle Of Amour was my hidden 11th track. Fucking superb.

First song that came to mind when I read the original post was "The Word" from 3121. By far my favorite track on that album, and I believe it would make my "Top 20 Personal Favorite Prince Songs Of All Time". I don't remember hearing a single word about this song here on the Org or elsewhere, though admittedly I could have easily missed such a discussion had it taken place.

"Shoo-bee-do" from NewPower Soul. I hate the chorus containing the title of the track, but I love the rest of the song. The vocal delivery is spot on (excepting the chorus). I really like most of the lyrics. This could have been a great song with a few corrections. Not expecting too many people to agree on this one.

"Walk in sand" from 20ten.

"All the midnights in the world" from Planet earth

"A million days" from musicology.

"Boom" from lotusflow3r. Listen to that guitar.

YES to all of these. Even your caveats on Shoo-bee-do. Great post.

Shockedelicus

  • Extraloveable Reloaded, a really fun track buried among the mind-numbing 20Ten singles.
  • Dreamer/Crimson & Clover sound great as a one-two punch, not so much when hidden in a wannabe-prog autotune massacre.
  • She Loves me 4 Me, Muse 2 the Pharaoh, U're Gonna C Me and Better With Time are treacly but touching.
  • Thieves in the Temple. Otherwise, I try to forget the released version of Graffiti Bridge happened.
  • Guitar, Somewhere Here on Earth, and Marrying Kind, Right Back Here in My Arms deserve honorable mentions.
