Does anyone think that Prince actually likes his new Album?

A weird Question i know.. but,

Wasnt it Prince who made this statement 3 years ago..?

"I personally can't stand digital music. You're getting sound in bits. It affects a different place in your brain. When you play it back, you can't feel anything. We're analogue people, not digital." http://www.nme.com/news/prince/57513

If AOA isnt a digital sounding record, then i dont know what one is so..

Is he just selling out to get a hit.. or do you think he's now a fan of the inferior modern sound?

or possibly he knows exactly what he's doing and its a stratigic plan to try to beat artists of the 'ART OFFICIAL AGE' at thier own auto tuned game?

***Or maybe the digital comment was just another in a long line of Prince feelings that change as he see's fit.

He's been recording digitally since the 90s.

Prince contradicting himself is nothing new.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

Yeah exactly, I dont think he knows what comes out his mouth alot of the time, maybe why he does so few interviews and the questions are generally seem pre-authorised probabaly because of this lol

Lets be honest though, listening to Plexctrum electrum it doesnt sound great IMO im all for Analogue but how it sounds when he's recording it to how its been mastered is a different story.

AOA the mastering on a couple of tracks isnt great, but its better.

This, and Prince has tried successfully and unsuccessfully in the past to merge the new with the old. That's his hallmark. For some people AOA is a successful merger, and for others it's not a successful merger. I really like AOA and think he has found an interesting and creative blend of what he does best with what this current generation does best, and this is coming from someone who doesn't think that the current generation does much, if anything, well. So, if anyone thinks that Prince is "selling out" with AOA, then he's been selling out since 1990, with varying success because, again, mixing the old with the new is one of the main things that Prince does.

*

Also, I don't know how much "credit" or "blame"--depending on if one likes or dislikes AOA--that Josh should get, but I think that people are underestimating Prince's ability to synergize, finally, the new sounds. I'm not saying that Josh hasn't helped Prince better bridge the two worlds, but I hear so much core Prince at the root of AOA that it's difficult for me to think that this is "just" an attempt to get a hit and not another example of Prince expanding his sound while retaining his core elements. As much as I initially hated "U Know" simply because Prince was singing over someone else's track, which is something I think that only non-talented people do, there just enough added to the original that exudes Prince while connecting to the new form/sound. And that is, in essence, Prince. Then, of course, there is "The Gold Standard," which is classic Prince. People who can't feel this song should just lie in the grave 'cause they are dead. But, seriously, there is too much of Prince on each song for me to think that he is just creating a "by the numbers" album to obtain a hit.

Hell yeah, he's selling out. Either he's selling out trying to get a hit or he's trying to work him some young rough trade to take home. Hell, probably a little of both. lol

"Digital sounding" (whatever that means) does not equal "digital."

Pretty sure both albums (Plectrum Electrum, for sure) were recorded on an analog system.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I highly doubt that, actually! Recorded to tape reels????

Im pretty sure AOA was not!

PE is being promoted as recorded live to tape.. im sure both wouldve been if they both were recorded that way. honestly PE still bores me regardless of the recording method.

Before albums are released:

Prince to engineer one: Hay, let's make sure the albums sound great

Prince to engineer two after engineer one is fired: Hey, I heard that auto tune is a popular trend that young people like, so I put some on the album. I also heard that if we turn the record level up to as loud as possible and distort the sound, that young people REALLY love that...sounds like a great idea to make the albums sell a lot!!!

After albums are released:

Prince to engineer two: These albums sound horrible! What did you do?

Engineer two: I quit....

You also have to understand that Prince is batshit crazy. He complains about MP3's and then puts them on his website, and releases two Brickwalled albums that are so loud, they make even his albums from 5-10 years ago sound quiet.

Oh, I have no doubt about that, and can provide plenty of other examples of his insanity, but the OP has still misinterpreted the quote.

I'll say it 4ever, never listen to Prince when he speaks. Only when he sings.

Prince is a whack-job when he talks.

His music is greatness.

His preachings and opinions= whofarted wacky

I already assumed that this what what he was talking about because i remember him also discussing people listening to music in earbuds during the same time period..

I DO believe he Also is talking about digital recording because its a widely known fact that many

albums are still recorded Analog/tape because many producers prefer its sound to digital recording.. Many people with the $$$ to do things correctly and are going for the 'Analog sound' do a Hybrid of Digital & Tape.. ie: Lenny Kravitz..
