holy crap! i thought i was the only fan of sakamoto ryuichi up in here!!!!!! but, i don't hear that much of a resemblance between way back home and forbidden colours. FC features more of an 'oriental' vibe in my opinion | |

I'm a huge fan of both Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian. My wife walked down the aisle to "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" (the instrumental version of "Forbidden Colours") -- but I'm not hearing the comparison either. | |

I don't really hear the resemblances with Way Back Home, to be honest.
I know Sakamoto best from The Last Emperor soundtrack. He and David Byrne each made half of the soundtrack, but I prefer Sakamoto's work. | |

There are some definite similarities there but I wouldn't go so far as to say they sound very similar. If we ever hear Prince play WBH solo on a piano the similarities may be more obvious. | |

I'm fairly sure Prince had Bob Seger in mind way more than a fairly obscure Japanese composer (at the time). There are some similarities but in all cases the songs are substially different (and of course, I wasn't saying any parties were influenced). | |

I posted it one week ago...Of course WAY BACK HOME is a plagiarism of Sakamoto : it's the same melody in more simple, with less notes. It's incredible to not recognize the song. The intro of FNR is very similar to that of Smoke on The Water A friend told me that PLECTRUM ELECTRUM is a copycat of a Panthera song, sadly, don't remember the name, the exact same riff |
