First half of 20Ten vs best of AOA

20ten seems to fall apart after Lavaux but those first five tracks are awesome.

AOA is surely more consistent and mixed better but do AOA's best five tracks compare to tracks 1-5 of 20ten?

what do y'all think?

lavaux is also good, but compassion - meh.

2010 had 5 great songs...none of em reaches the quality of aoa imho

I think Lavaux, Sticky Like Glue and Future Soul Song are the kinds of Prince songs we were begging Prince to do for 30 years and I'd argue better than or at least the equal of anything on AOA.

Yeah, Compassion and Beg Endlessly are def a notch below

The first half of 20Ten doesn't hold up to AOA's first half imo. 20Ten starts out awfully (those two opening tracks are rather off putting), while I actually dig the AOC semi title track (and the songs that follow). Lavaux is lyrically interesting, but musically boring to me. Sticky Like Glue and Future Soul Song are good tracks, even though FSS is a bit too slick.

I think Beginning Endlessly is an overlooked gem and would have worked well on AOA.

Sticky Like Glue is better than most of AOA, but 20Ten man, nahhhh - AOA wins out here.

AOA is way better overall. Even the stinkers on AOA are more engaging than most of 20TEN.

That being said, nothing on AOA touches Future Soul Song.

Sticky Like Glue is a great groove and shuffle until the coolest movie ever part. AIGHT? It gets ya to the "whats wrong with me?" part that is kinda fun, but still... "gracious host with the most lets have a toast" why not "drive up the coast while we boast and roast thanksgiving day floats" while you're at it... so boring/lame... Same with Art Official Cage and its 90s rap segue. Totally unnecessary and offputting.

I tried to make a 20Ten/AOA playlist and found myself skipping those 20ten tracks. Beginning Endlessly fits well as does Track 77.

Future Soul Song is better than anything on AOA, but then it's also one of my all time favourite Prince songs...

But then Funknroll and The Gold Standard kick the ass of any uptempos from 20ten.

Hard call, but i think I'll go with AOA.

Sticky Like Glue

Future Soul Song

that is basically 20Ten.

It's not a good album at all.

Just replace Breakfast Can Wait, U Know and What It Feels Like with Future Soul Song, Sticky Like Glue and Act of God and you have the first Prince album since the 80s without any filler.

I must be the only one that actually really likes "Compassion" which has this 70's rock hippie musical theater feel (with the Linn Prince brand added).

Add Future Soul Song, Sticky Like Glue and Groovy Potential 2 AOA and it's without a doubt his best album since TRC.

No, you're not. Compassion, FSS, SLG and AOG are my pick of the bunch. Not too fussed on the rest (although Everybody Loves Me is a guilty pleasure).

Lavaux! Beginning Endlessly, FUTURE SOUL SONG (LOVE THE LOVE FOR THIS TRACK HERE), and Lay it Down and esp Sticky Like Glue are all instant classics.

So far the only 2 i'm immediately feeling on that level are Clouds and U Know.

3121 still kills both.

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

It's strange when u think the 20TEN - AOA era is not a bad one at all. Just had to be filtered.

Combine all these songs into one album it would have certainly been one of his best most solid releases in a long time.

1.U Know

2.The Gold Standard

3.Clouds

4.Sticky Like Glue

5.Groovy Potential

6.Future Soul Song

7.Another Love

8. Way Back Home

I actually like 20ten a lot. I know, I know. I'm not saying it's classic or even a good album. I just like listening to it. That being said, AOA is far superior in my opinion. It's far more professional and nature sounding, has more depth, and just kicks more ass across the board.

I'll take either album over MPLSound or Planet Earth. Or the High-era tracks.

AOA has better mixing, more polish and more contemporary production. I really like the album a lot, but many of the songs on 20Ten are still better than anything else that Prince has done in years. It is a seriously underrated album.

AOA is extra cool because we got to see Josh and Prince talking about songs and production in the studio during the release party and that just makes it more real and close.

20Ten sounds like it was recorded and mixed pretty quickly - even the background vocals aren't 100% perfectly synced up, but the fact that it's a little demo-like doesn't hurt it any more than being demo-like hurt Dirty Mind (not at all).

The sequence of tracks 3-7 (Future Soul Song, Sticky Like Glue, Act of God, *LAVAUX*, Walk In Sand) is incredibly strong. Everybody Loves Me is tight and the rest of the album is quite good too.
Rolling Stone and a few other publications have rated Lavaux and Sticky Like Glue as being in Prince's top 10 or 15 post-eighties tracks. They're fantastic.

There ARE some nice tracks on 20Ten but other than that

AoA is actually a proper album which i can´t claim for 20TEN.

I really can´t read those comparisons anymore.

AoA stands for itself and is the best album since TRC maybe even since The Gold Experience...
