Art Official Age: not about the future...

The world moves so fast these days, culturally, technologically, that it's easy to lose yourself, or to feel like you got left behind - particularly if you're not a 'youngster'. You can wake up and suddenly feel like you've been in suspended animation, like you've woken up 45 years or so in the future, everything feels so alien, so artificial.

The things around you seem familiar; breakfast, yearning for a solid relationship, a certain standard of behaviour or attitude, but somehow you feel disconnected... you can try and just be someone who fits in with the crowd, you can try and just roll with it, but it's never quite right, like your skin doesn't quite fit...

until eventually you realise that the only way to remain engaged in the changing times, the new fashions, the ever-evolving vanguards, is to be true to yourself. You realise that through it all, music, religion, war, peace, new upon new, you will never be happy until you recognise and realise your own place in the world. Once you realise your place in the world, you understand that you can be happy in any time and place... that you weren't in fact held in suspended animation. You realise that you've been 'here', in the here and now, all along, and that it's about time that you got down to making the most of that... and once you realise all this, you realise that you can, at last, find your way home... and that, in fact, you've been there all along. Home is 'you'... it always was. You just didn't recognise it. Until now.
