Oh you didn't read the best part then?

Here you go:

— Prince goes to YouTube for music, too: Some Prince fans who want to go to YouTube to pull up their favorite track or performance have long complained that Prince is overly aggressive in removing that music on copyright infringement grounds. So they might be surprised that he uses it to look up music and old performances of others. When the point is underscored as he watches an old James Brown clip, he says: "James Brown has an estate — so do I," then adds: "People need to stop tripping."

I really don't think the point can get any more clearer than that. Prince does not give a flying fuck about his fans. We're nothing more to him than:

disbelief

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

If Prince allowed all his old stuff, and older performances to be blasted all over youtube, then when the young'uns hear AOA and go on the Internetmachine to check him out they'd be blown away and be made fans for life.

Its obvious. He's a JW
He's not going to put stuff like Head and Darling Nikki out there anymore. It would be a negative influence on people.

I know hundreds of teenagers who are into Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Led Zeppelin, even Frank Zappa or Nirvana, even though most of them were born after 1995.

But most of them don´t have the slightest clue who Prince is or only know two songs.

I understand that his religion is probably a factor as far as his old songs are concerned but it´s sad that younger generations are not familiar with Prince , his music and his live shows.

Keeping your music off YouTube is like keeping it off the radio. I hope he wises up. AOA has created a mini-buzz here in the UK and given him something to build on. An online presence is essential even if it does involve Clouds.

Is he a JW? Sounds like he's on a new-age trip with God at the moment.
Some of the lyrics between him and Andy on Time are not of The Theocratic Order for sure.

Maybe Prince just doesn't care if teenagers hears his old music and become fans. Prince has an "I don't give a damn" attitude, where others are concerned, fans or not. Prince probably feels like he has nothing to prove to anyone, that his music speaks for itself! Prince has always done as he pleases, and I think that at his age, he's not about to change for anyone.

What you aren't seeing is Prince watching the videos laughing, pointing and calling them suckers for allowing it.

At least his inconsistency has remained consistent throughout his career, I'll give him that much. Lord knows the fans aren't here because of his personality.

The problem here is that "promo videos" are just that: promo tools. It's true that video collections can be sold on home video formats but that never was their main purpose. Starting in 2009 when we had to pay 77 bucks to access some of prince's past video catalogue, then in 2013 when we had to purchase promo videos for new songs like Screwdrive or Live Out Loud, prince has started to behave as if promo-videos were like records, something that's being done in the sole sake of being purchased.

While I can respect prince not wanting bootleg videos on YT because, after all, it's his choice to decide what is worth being available or not to us, I think it's nonsense that he doesn't have a Youtube channel where he'd put his whole past video catalogue online, it would do nothing but boost record sales. Now I understand that the feud with WB probably was a demotivating factor, but on the other hand the post-WB videos are nowhere to be found officially either.

The most ridiculous thing is that, though not on Youtube (or not for long when they regularly reappear there), all of prince's past videos ARE online, have been continuously for years, only in very poor image and sound quality! This is ridiculous...

Hopefully, with the possible beginning of a remasters program, prince will come to his senses. Madonna, Michael Jackson, Kate Bush, Eurythmics and countless others have YT channels where they uploaded the entirety of their past promo videos. I can't see how the Purple Rain remaster could not benefit from a YT channel featuring When Doves Cry, Let's Go Crazy, I Would Die 4 U, Baby I'm A Star and Take Me With U. Then videos could be uploaded at least progressively, to go along the release of other remastered albums, that is if a serious archives program in on the way (which I somehow doubt).
