It's got a nice energy, but it doesn't at all seem like a Black Album track as some fans have said (those had very wicked complicated mixes and crazy original noises). To me, it's more like a 2000-2001 type Prince track where the groove is energetic, but really, really simple, and the arrangement is very clear and the keyboard voices are a bit generic. Fits more in line with Peace or 1+1+1=3.

It also seems like it owes some of it's energy on the pitched down voice part to the verses of "Fantastic Voyage"

^^ yeah i dont get the black album comparison either
It reminds me more of early 80's prince or The Time, with a 2000's touch
Love the Jamie Star voice near the end pimp2

Or, like a Midnight Star Jam, such as "No Parking on the Dance Floor" or "Freak-a-zoid." But, yes, I love "The Gold Standard" as well as most of AOA.

So pleased you all agree and TBF I don't care when it's from it's just the best song on the album. Hooray for Prince and his groovyness.

Great song but I cant help feel it is lacking something. Maybe more punch to the bass. Also could have done without the vocal layering (the Prince choir) and would have preferred a couple of female back up singers instead just to give it a more raw sound.

But otherwise, cool song.

The Gold Standard actually is Prince's direct answer, musically and lyrically, to Superfunkycalifragisexy and the Black album's dark message as a whole.

The track Superfunkycalifragisexy is a dark tale of sex and lust.
He raps:
"If you do too much, your skin will be sensitive to the touch,
The first person that touches u, u wanna fuck."

In the AOA track, Prince sings about a new Gold Standard, the rap is changed:
"When the beat's too much, u need to drop that cup,
And while your left and your right hand's up u need to just... shake"

Just compare the two raps!

In Superfunky:
#This beat is on time, refined, designed to make u do the do.

While in Gold Standard:
"You don't need to be rude, you don't need to be wild.", is now his new found credo. Even Bob George has come clean and comes in to proclaim the New Power (Lovesexy reference)(sliiide!) of this Gold Standard in which it's about the music and the dance itself, that eventually will lead to 'spiritual healing'.

'Crazy Amazing' has finally beaten 'Spooky Electric'.

"Turn it up, let your body move!"

One of his best tracks in ages. This is how the rest of the album should have been. Unfortunately though, it's the only good track on the entire album.

Andy is a four letter word.

Fun, Funky as hell and Old School. The ending is just aces. For some reason I keep envisioning a the video chock full of celebrity cameos in full 70's or even early 80's getup line dancing to this. Now sliiiiiide.
