Co-sign that. Listen to the albums first. That way you hear the podcast with your own opinions in place. smile

Thoroughly enjoyed these. Great to hear you guys giving your opinions without the vitriol found here on the Org.

Nice show. Pretty good balanced reviews, although I'm somehow drawn to different songs than y'all. I appreciate the praise of Time -- gotta agree. It's interesting that Way Back Home got little love on the show.

The little Bootsy shout out was cool.

Plus Mike the host allowed a little bit of interaction (responses to each other) which is a good, as the lack of interaction is usually my only complaint about your shows.

When is this hitting itunes? So much easier to download and listen via the podcast app... Don't understand why it's not in either podcasts section??

Mike, I Totally agree with you about "This Could Be Us". I LOVE this song, the lyrics, and ESPECIALLY the vocals and the harmony. I also agree with Big Ken's comment about women being drawn to men that exude confidence. Prince could've chosen any career path in life and been successful (imo) because he believes in himself, and successful, confident men are HOT!

I like "Time" a lot, but I do see "affirmation I & II", "Way Back Home", and "affirmation III", if played in sequence, as the album closer. It almost feels (to me) anthemic, and a post Purple Rain, Bic lighter concert closer.

We could all nitpick both of these albums, but they're good, flaws included. I enjoyed both of the podcasts and hearing everyone's respectfully voiced opinions. Thank you, Mr. Dean and friends.

Btw, please tell me I'm not the only one that thinks Mr. Wiggins sounds like Jimmy Jam. lol

The AOA review was a very enjoyable listen - thanks gents. Surprised that "Time" got so much love - it's pretty good, love the rising synths, but it doesn't really go anywhere. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm not a fan of the basswork here - for me it leadens the song, dragging it down into a squelchy aural swamp. The theme screams air, space and time which I think would have benefitted with no bass and perhaps some more synth jiggerypokery. The "Way Back Home" and "Affirmation" suites are far stronger - musically and lyrically - it's the beating heart of this album IMO.

And you know...I somewhat sway in your directions these days. Time is awesome, no doubt, but Way Back Home is a "sleeper" of a song and likely will grow on you after some listens. It has me, including it's position on the tracklist. This is true for the affirmations. There was some deep thought that went into this, that upon further listens, was obviously overlooked upon the initial thoughts podcast.

.

Keep in mind, however, that this podcast was recorded prior to the actual release, with very little lead time for listening to the tracks. So it is very much a "first impressions" podcast. A redo of that podcast a month later would likely yield slightly different perspectives, I believe. But your input is very valid.
