Time- Bass driven funk!

It's been a long TIME since Prince has had a strong bass driven song. This song is easily becoming one of my favorites. Definitely sounds like Prince thumping and slapping.

"Breakdown" is similar in that sense.

I know you said "funk", and I don't entirely disagree with that description, but I think it's funk stuff only in the sense that it's not so hard to see something like it included on a funk album.

The bass on breakdown is nothing like that on time - about 3 minutes in he starts playing and doesn't stop till the fake ending, right before he brings it back and the artificial horns sock you in the jaw I just don't want this song to end.

You sure like being argumentative.

Both have an aggressively picked bass guitar that is placed unusually loud in the mix with a heavy emphasis on "the one", as is typical for the P-Funk / Larry Graham approach to playing the instrument. It should not be so hard to spot the similarities, especially considering that the patterns he plays aren't that far removed from each other like you suggest. "Time" has more embellishments, of course.

Sorry mate, I don't mean to be argumentative. I'm get what you're saying but whats being played is vastly different.

That bass on TIME is ALL THAT! Love it.

I do see him doing a lot of thunking in this song.

I like the sound of this word a lot for the bass work in "Time." Thunk/thunking.

instant classic.

.

Love the way the drum is acented with what sounds like his voice? The bass comes in around the 3 minute mark and just doesn't stop till the end, there's just a 3 and a half minute bass solo going on throught the last half of the song. The fake ending before the horns punch you in the face and just as quickly fading it out is the definition of "leave em wanting more".

Yeah, I love that bass line. That's definitely Prince playing. He has a way of getting so much emotion in one note.

The bass on this track is an insane funk trip! Time is bad den a muthafucka. Easily one of the best tracks he's laid in a while. This muthafucka got me playin' this shit endlessly. This is a serious muthafuckin' track. Bad den a muthafucka.

The bass playing on this song is awesome ... but ... how do we know if it's Prince or Ida? Not that it really matters, but I am a little curious.

There is some serious Larry Graham vibe on the outro of 'Time'. Prince supposedly played Larry's white Moon Bass on 'The Breakdown'.

Cant stop playing this the last few days. Love the bass, love Prince and Andy's vocals and interchanges and the way she throws in bits of What It Feels Like and Breakdown. Even tho its nearly 7 mins I wouldnt mind it going on longer

Prince and The Pauper. That's Prince putting a whuppin' on that bass. The Pauper came up with the rest of those snoozefest vocals. This whole album sounds like Prince's nerves are bad. Like he needs a spoonful of Metamucil and his slippers. biggrin Seriously the bass-playing on Time is the best musical moment on this whole album.
