Prince and 3EG Rehearse at 4AM

New article detailing Prince's astonishing work ethic and a bit about the recording of Plectrumelectrum.

I need to have that work ethic to get done all the things I've committed myself to, and all the things I want to do before I croak

.

First of all, that's an article based 100% on another article for which there already exists a thread. But I guess you don't want to attract attention to the full Guardian interview because 3EG are doing a bit of slut-shaming in that interview. Which is especially damning considering Prince was praising countries "where women had to cover up" a couple of years ago.

.

Secondly, what is said here is nothing new. We already know about the endless rehearsal sessions, because that's Prince's MO. I don't even consider it a healthy work ethic, it's just Prince living in Prince-land.

.

Also, for all the talk about endless rehearsals, 3EG still don't sound like a band, Hannah is probably Prince's worst drummer ever (which is quite some feat considering she's competing with Kirky J) and Donna is wildly miscast.

And yet every review of their live shows (apart from their very first show a couple of years ago, admittedly) are wildly positive. But everyone is wrong. Apart from Bart and whoever reviewed that show.

er

True, but I do think Bart has a point. It all sounds very impressive, those endless hours and days in the studio, but if it's a healthy way to live your life is questionable. (Same as trolling the internet for year after year dissing your favorite artist!) wink

To me the most important thing is if 3EG rehearses at 4 in the morning, it means fewer people will be subjected to hearing BOYTROUBLE.

I didn't yet read The Guardian article and came across this one looking for AOA reviews, so much for your theories about my intent to hide the "damning" revelations that so infuriate you. Prince is not the man he used to be, he's evolving -- are you? So he wants his protégés to cover up these days, but he's also not using them as sex objects and they're in a power rock band , he's clearly very appreciative of what they can do, this is not Carmen On Top, sorry.

As for your condemnation of Prince's unhealthy hours, a bit late for that since much of what you like was composed, performed and produced at ungodly hours as well. But feel free to swear off all those songs in protest.

3EG had great reviews for their live shows, you can't pretend otherwise. But of course no one knows anything but you, so that's not important in Bart-Land.

I cant understand how a band can practice 12 hours a day and all they come up with is the shit on Plectrum Electrum .. That is one shitty album and 3eg aint to hot live either .. 12 hours a day and that album should have been smoking .. there are like 2 guitar solos and a bunch of beyond horrible songs on that record. a band should rehearse once per week for a few hours .. if u need more than that than u are a shitty musician not much removed from practicing scales with a music teacher, which is exactly what it sounds like .. jesus prince .. just get musicians that already know how to play and quit standing around for 12 hours beating a horrible song into the ground until it is lifeless .. prince be a guy that can write and record an entire song in one day .. what they hell are they doing with those 12 hours .. too much ping pong and pancakes I am guessing

Prince has employed dozens of people in his bands over the years. I've yet to hear one of them say, "Man, what a horrible experience. Dude just works too much. I'm glad I'm not in his band any more".

I've also learned over the years that with respect to reviewing Prince concerts, there are two kinds of people: (1) those who didn't see the show, and may or may not have heard a bootleg recording of it; and (2) those who did see the show.

Why anyone who falls into category 1 would believe their opinion on a Prince show is more valid than someone from category 2 is beyond me. But you could fill a book with posts from people that dissed shows they weren't at. It's like those in category 1 have lost touch with reality.
