Props N Pounds: one of the WORST Prince songs ever

Props N Pounds is easily one of the worst Prince songs ever, especially the Kurt Loder segments. I peed next to Kurt Loder at Paisley Park one time back in 1999 or so. I looked over and who's in the next urinal? Kurt Loder. I really wanted to pee on his shoes because fuck that guy. And then Props N Pounds comes out a year of two later and I have to hear that guy's stupid voice on that crappy song.

It's better than some of that other crap he was recording during that time. It's kind of clever and funny any way. Instead of just droning on.

Okay, then--what is? For all your masterpiece proclamations to mean anything, you have to also have some opinions that aren't all praise and positivity... otherwise, well, it's impossible to think you have any critical capacity at all.

Oh, and yes, it really is one of his worst. I liked a whole lot of stuff from that period, and still like most (at least some), but that was pretty poor.

I have some positive threads. Somewhere. I think. :)

I'm not all negative. It's just that Props N Pounds is really bad. I love Vavoom, Supercute, Underneath the Cream, and some other songs from that time. I was lucky enough to see Prince perform them live (Vavoom at least) at Paisley. But, damn, putting Kurt Loder on your song is just not funky.

Many of these songs have a "dragging" feel.

I don't dislike them entirely, but putting them one after another on a playlist results in a pretty tedious listening experience. A lot of people dislike "High", but at least it's more uptempo. "Golden Parachute", "Props'n'ponds" and "Sex Me Sex Me Not" would have been too much on the same album release. I'm glad that he didn't put them out as an "official" CD release.

Yes, yes, yes--I understand. Somebody said a Prince title, so you have to pretend to come. Fine. I didn't ask if you liked Props N Pounds; you'd already claimed to like it--so I'll try again. Just so I can begin to figure out what your real musical preferences are. I'm not expecting you to say anything's bad--God forbid--but let's just see if we can get some sort of idea of grades of greatness at least (and remember--I like almost everything Prince has released, but I like some things more and some things less):

Taking it as a given that you like absolutely everything Prince has done, what has Prince recorded that doesn't make you spurt?

I actually like "Props N Pounds." It's certainly not profound, but to me it's silly and fun. And aren't there 2 versions, one with Kurt and one without? Granted, I haven't listened to it in years and years, but at the time it was one of my favorites from that era.

To me, a couple songs from around that time that I absolutely loathe are: Peace, Northside, and Why Should I Do That When I Can Do This?

Peace is the worst though, by far. Nothing redeeming about that song, to my ears.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

I saw him do Why Should I Do That... at Paisley. It was pretty fucking boring, which is an amazing statement. And then Geneva danced around on stage while Prince looked sad.

Got it. You won't admit to not liking anything. So I no longer have to even think about taking your positives seriously. You can't honestly just give props--you've also got to give pounds sometimes if you're a truthteller.
