A curious choice for a single indeed. U Know is clearly the one deserving a video of the songs released so far. Sounds like they wanted to make a video with folks on roller skates more than promote a hit.

I've been at a few video shoots. Only one I noticed myself in was the Beautiful Experience film, the live portions. I was right up front for that show. I was at these video shoots:

Sexy MF

My Name Is Prince

eye Wanna Melt With U

The Morning Papers (the Ryde Dyvine TV concert special)

Nothing Compares 2 U (live show from Paisley Park)

Gold (Love 4 One Another TV special)

Somebody's Somebody (club scene)

Well its all subjective which is better but I think Funknroll is probably one of the more universally liked tracks hes done since the 3EG era and it spans both albums so it seems like a relatively safe and good investment if WB is footing the bill.
Change it one more time..

Well this is good news imo. I've long thought that FunknRoll was easily the most promising of the new tracks, and I even remember expressing the wish that it be released as a single in the Fallinlovetonite chart thread, so it's good to see my wish finally come true (I actually remember Kcool replying to me at the time that he was sure FunknRoll would get its time to shine, so good prediction there smile ).

One thing I wonder though, is that if the widespread org speculation that there are two different versions of FunknRoll, one for each disc, is true, which one will be released as the single?

Both? Would that make sense?

Good that there will be a video ! Whilst I obviously don't know the context of the video, it seems a little odd to specify only "ethnic" or African American people ?? Are you even allowed to discriminate / specify ethnicity in a job spec ?

well, maybe BET is the only channel that would dare showing one of his new videos anymore..............I seem to remember they used to show 'Call My Name'

................so in that case, I don't blame him...................

hopefully the remix has tried to include some Funk because to my ears, it is not funk nor is it roll............it just goes nowhere fast

U can't very well get Wesley snipes portraying a white character. Or get James gandolfini portraying a gym rat.
Typical jobs, u can't discriminate. Casting and casting calls for movies, videos, etc follow different rules cuz of the natuer and needs of the job and the roles.

And I guess Robert Palmer did it just fine. lol
What?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that "FunknRoll" is being shot to promote the 3rdeyegirl project...It's the P album that has been getting all the buzz given that the 3rdeyegirl project has been overshadowed by Prince's solo joint....So this is pretty much a no brainer....

I'm also willing to bet that "U Know" will be shot and will get the shiny, pristine treatment by Warner Bros.....

Doubtful.

If "U Know" was the primary single for this album, or the main one being used to promote this album, I don't think it would be released as a pre-release download. At least not when there are 2 more to come.

But we shall see.

I was at the video shoots for the songs "Gold" and "Rock & Roll is Alive (and it Lives in Minneapolis") You may be able to catch me in the crowd for a half second or something... I was also at the "Rave un2 the Year 2000" video shoot party etc. and I found myself on the DVD once or twice in the crowd. That's as close as I get.

FunkDr

BobGeorge 909 & iZsaZsa -

I get your points - hence my post stating that I didn't know the context / storyline of the video.

Wesley Snipes and James Gandolfini would be playing major roles in a film and so the actor needs to fit the part - obviously - but surely this is less important with extras in a video? Unless of course, the storyline and/or setting of the video is very specific - hence me qualifying my post by stating that I don't know the context of the video.

3rdeyedude - are we really saying that BET would have an issue playing a video if some of the extras were white ?? Wow ! I hope that isn't the case - but I'm not detecting sarcasm in your post.

Inclusivity everywhere.

Maybe he's trying to attract a younger, black audience to 3EG's music, by having more AA dancers in the vid to pass the song off as a funk/r&b track? Just a guess, as I could be wrong. Kind of odd if that's the case since 3EG doesn't seem close to a funk/r&b group at all. They appear and sound more like a rock-poppy group, from the few songs released for free in the past year or two. shrug

If I was into this group, I would say Donna stands out more, as a musician. She doesn't come off poppy, like Hannah, but moreso hard rock. This group seems to be geared to a much, younger generation, especially with the pretzel song, and 'funk&roll'-but lacking the funk.

Nothing wrong with attracting the younger, Prince generation. For me, between the 3121 through 20ten, and 2 of his proteges' albums (Andy and Liv's), those albums pretty much seemed to have a mixed age group, and had a little something for everyone on the album. The 3EG music just seems a wee bit young for my taste, (that's not an insult by the way). I must say, though, I enjoyed quite a few eras of Prince's music with my generation over the years, so I have no complaints really. There are just a handful of tracks of late, from 3EG, where I don't feel too much of a generation gap, mainly because if the sound. Anyway, it will be interesting to see if the 'funk&roll' vid will help attract more younger fans across the board.

Eye feel prince's production skills, with his proteges have been top notch lately. He has really taken his time with these latest projects, to make sure they get proper promotion & exposure. He didn't do that in the past. With the exception of The Time & Sheila E. or maybe his failed wb promotion of Carmen Electra..

Noodled24

I've only heard F&R live and it didn't blow me away. BUT it's 2 birds with one stone. The video can be used to promote both albums.

"looking for individuals with unique skills that could work with their “roll” theme"

If this is where they're at ::cringe::

"we need to come up with an idea for the video for funkandroll"

"I know!! rollerskates... you know because it's funkandROLL... that was easy... lunch?"

"Are you sure about rollerskates? They've not been popular since the 80's.... ahhh I see. LUNCH!"

On the plus side we might get to see Princes super light up sparking skates.
