What one Prince song would you fling into the sun?

Prince has many great songs but also a good number of turds. What one song would you fling into the sun so that it burns to a crisp and never bothers us again? For me, I'd have to say Everyday is a Winding a Road. It's not just the grammatical error in the song title (is that Sheryl's fault?). It's the terrible stale disco funk. It's the AWFUL Larryness. And it's the tragic fact that I saw Prince perform this at Paisley right before Rave cane out and it sounded decent. I was mystified about why he covered such a piece of shit. But it sounded decent and rockish. It was not stale disco funk.

So, yeah, fuck that song. I'm going to launch it into the sun.

What's your pick? And why?

Considering his catalog as of late, there were way too many to choose from but I'll go with Purple and Gold. Simply because I don't think I could get rid of whatever the hell that was he did to "Let's Go Crazy - 2013" without also getting rid of the original, as well. shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I was reading an article last week and the author mentioned "Everyday Is A Winding Road" as one of Prince's post-WB highlights. I was a little mystified by that, but each to their own.

As for me? I'm going to have to go with the obvious answer of Purple and Gold. I really don't know what that song is supposed to be.

For me it's a fight the death between "Jughead" (possibly the worst Prince song ever recorded) and "Purple & Gold"....Those two songs make me put the covers over my head....

Jughead, Purple & Gold, and anything with Auto Tune. Now some of those Auto Tune songs would make decent B-Sides with normal vocals. I like Incense And Candles, but it would be SOOOOO much better with real vocals. But put Tony M's contributions into the Sun. But nothing will erase the memory of him, Damon, and Kirk wearing those ridiculous Star Trek Next Generation uniforms. They looked funny and tacky then, and look even worse now!

A few other candidates: Arms of Orion, Grafitti Bridge, Walk Don't Walk, Email (or was it Emale?!), Rich Friends, Hot Summer, Cause and Effect, and that atrocious remix of Man o' War from Rave In2 the Crap Craptastic.

Oh, geez...there is no way I can pick just one. I mean...there are the Gangsta Glam remixes, Purple and Gold, U Know, Right the Wrong (a track the woman should have buried with her grandpa). So many choices.

Can I fling the entire Kamasutra album?

I think that's your own typo...

And apart from the awful Larryness, I consider it a successful update of his Just As Long As We're Together - a song that never worked.

I would launch most of Prince's 21st century output into the sun, plus crap like Another Lonely Christmas and Hello.

it's hard to choose just one .. i hate so many with such disdain .. i often wish i had never ever heard anything past wb .. even tho there are a couple good tunes post wb .. it just ruined my love for prince music and my ability to be proud of being a prince fan to others ... but if i had to choose just one .. i would pick that piece of shit song that was in verizon comercial so now it is played as often as his real hits and it is easily one of his worst stinky ass diarhea dumps ..

guitar

that horrid guitar line that always gets quoted and compared to u2 .. it is just 3 boring notes that do absolutely nothing for the song and somehow everyone writes about it .. the marbles in his mouth delivery of the verses .. i want this song to burn for eternity in the fiery pits of the sun never to be heard again by anyone EVER!!

It's not just my typo. Look at the Rave packaging. It says "Everyday." It should be "Every Day." It's not even dumb enough to be Princebonics. It's just a stupid mistake. Fuck that song.

No! I'm pretty sure Hot Summer would actually snuff out the sun from the sheer force if its suck. If you combined it with, say, Props N Pounds, we would all die. We must feed one song at a time into the sun.

Don't we start this thread every week? Plenty of songs I dislike and even hate.

But at this point, given the feast of negativity that we started right after we got the news we'll finally get what we bitched we were not getting, it feels like someone using Prince as his own personal punching bag.

We get it -- Prince is not God and he releases some weak songs. This has been established a million times.

Let's save our energy for the beginning of October, when we'll have plenty of opportunities to praise or diss Prince. But if you feel like bitching about Jughead, Hide the Bone, Animal Kingdom, Kamasutra, Life of the party and can't get enough of restating your dislike, hey it's a free country.
