Prince working with Rita Ora

Prince is supposed to be the rock legend who rarely makes an appearence in the media, and keeps a distance from everything mainstream. He works with the likes of Esperanza Spalding, Janelle Monae and such... So why he decided to work with a manufactured Rihanna-esque shitty star called Rita Ora.

He's not looking for attention, because working with someone who longs to be with him (like Beyoncé or Bruno Mars) is enough to make him the man of the hour, but Rita Ora? She's selfishly trying to be in the same league of Beyoncé and Lady Gaga (popularity wise).

Prince is not "supposed to be" anything. Prince does whatever he damn well pleases, and that's part of why we love him.

Did you miss the part where he worked with Martika? Eve? Madonna? Gwen Stefani? Vanity? Apollonia? Carmen Electra? Need me to keep going?

It would be wise to stop projecting your ideas about what you think Prince is and what you think Prince should be doing. That ain't your place, nor any of ours.

One idea would be this. If you don't like the thought of Prince collaborating with Rita Ora, then when that song gets released, simply don't listen to it.

I for one dig Rita. Manufactured or not (what does that even mean, anyway?) this song is killer:

But if you don't like pop music, you probably won't dig it.

Funnily enough, since Prince is a pop icon, a lot of us here do like pop music. Your instant use of the phrase "supposed to be a rock legend" indicates that you've forgotten that he's also one of the biggest selling pop icons of all time, and actually more known worldwide as a pop star than a rock legend, if it came down to one or the other.

Artists work with other singers in other countries sometimes to break into that market further. Although Prince is known among his fans, others seem to think he is dead or just past it.

Prince working with Rita will open him up to a younger crowd and pretty much guarantee UK radio play, since the likes of Radio 1 only play artists under 40 on many of their primetime playlists, a track with Rita could potentially open him up to millions of listeners multiple times a day on the same station. Which can lead to them checking him out or buying his album.

Its kind of like Mary J Blige, on her last album she did a track with Jessie J who at the time was a main pop name in the UK, meaning younger listeners were more likely to check her out on the back of that song.

Its all about marketing really.

yep,, agreed,,he makes pop songs and just happens to be one kick ass musician.. i actually think that ( pure speculation) that he had a whole slew of songs with the expanded NPG (horns etc) ready rto release and although some may prefer those to these with Josh, the commerical viability of a Big City and Aint MIss U are nowhere near these songs that he is putting out now..

Alot I told that I were going to see him when he was over here last responded with "I thought he was dead" or "I didnt even know he was still going" Course people know who he is, but his profile in the UK over the years hasnt been big, for example my 20 year old sister didnt have a clue who he was a track with Rita Ora will sort that right out with the younger crowd which is whats needed to raise his profile again. Its certainly a great call by him to do a collab, apparently there is a collab with Adele too coming for her album.

This post makes no sense, and sound like nothing but jealousy and hate.

Prince can work with whoever he want to work with. I wish yall stop bringing Beyonce up in everything like the world - or entertainment industry - can't function without her. She doesn't have to be the go-to for everything. Prince has worked with her, and other artists as well...and now, he is working with Rita.

What is wrong with an artist wanting to be successful? You say that like it's a bad thing that Rita wants to be in the same league as successful artist.

Rihanna esque...Um, Rihanna is a manufactured artist herself. And unlike Rihanna, Rita can actually sing.

Beyonce already had her moment with him at the Grammys a while back, so that's probably one and done. But now Prince is working with Rita Ora but won't even sneeze at Bruno Mars? Man, this is ridiculous on so many levels. Hey Prince, if you're reading this, PLEASE get on the phone and let Bruno at least kick it with you in the studio. He's a badass musician and showman who isn't full of gimmicks and just goes straightforward with his music. Isn't that what you said you wanted?
