Prince has sued fans, changed his name, and fucked people over. Or just fucked them wink

But his worse crime is constantly making boring new music. Absolutely shitty lyrics (This is the same man who wrote If I Was Your Girlfriend, Sign ''o'' The Times, Sometimes It Snows In April, Pop Life, The Cross, and She's Always In My Hair?)

The music itself is just... meh. I'm not excited for these 2 albums at all. But unlike other Prince fans i'm not bitter. Dude has 9 great albums, and 4 really good ones. That's a pretty good run.

I made a similar point

I challenge the people that like Whitecaps to listen to those lyrics and how clumsy they are delivered. She is literally tripping over the words because Prince doesn't know how to get around words rhyming and delivering a vocal rhythmically (this showed up early for him when he tried to rap but now its in most of his songs). She stumbles in this song just like he does in most of his new music. Like you said this is a man that wrote She's Always in my Hair.

It’s a stunning collapse. I do like Clouds and U Know... and it’s rare that I like his new music. I tried to listen to the Breakdown this morning and give it another try and couldn't do it. It sucks... and he’s singing like a wet cat. How many times has Prince done Breakdown? Good grief it’s just bad its like one of those Crystal Ball outakes. He has done this song already... move on.

confused i just don't think his heart is in writing anymore. He just made 2 albums. He probably did them in lightning speed.

But i'm really not mad about his new music. He had a good run for me! i gave up hope of hearing another good prince album lol

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Its a good song. I like it. Its pleasant. Im just a little confused why this song and U Know have been prereleased. Neither of them are single material and dont do much for selling the album(s) as a whole. Surely you release your strongest songs first to get a buzz going for the album? Thats how it used to work anyway. This song and U Know sound like album songs designed to break things up or bridge things together. Not filler, but not far off.

Single material... You people are so funny. What's single material to you? Raspberry Beret? Lmbo

Not to mention that jacking off is usually a term used to describe what a man does intimately to himself and another man and not a woman

Just like Head is a term generally used to refer to what a man or a woman gives to a man...

The song is ok. The chorus reminds me of the Crosby, Stills and Nash song "Wooden Ships".

Wooden ships on the water very free...

Of the recent preview tracks from either album I reckon this is the best. Got a nice whimsical vibe, a little 17 days I sense..... Lovely drums and nice hook.

My first reaction to the song and I have since listened to it another 10 times is: You gotta be kidding!!

First of all, it copies the drum and guitar intro from Dancing close and slow. That is not so bad in itself but then the song never takes off, it just noodles along.

The singing sounds apathetic, almost whiny and the pitch goes off the rails at around 2:30.

The lyrics are dreadful.

Why would WB / Prince release such a lame song as promotion for the album?

Hopefully the rest of the album is better.

Ida's bass work is turning me into a fan. Sonny was playful but aggressive. Ida's playful...but a fun playful. Bubbly...like a bloated bottle of champagne.

I'd love to hear her take in the bass work in splash. Her l.o.l. bass work always takes me to splash. I think its her bass work that allows me to enjoy that song.

But the bubbly is in whitecaps too. I dig this bass works and the guitar atmospherics. They pet some anxiety out of my brain.

OhmyfuckingGod,

that's some dreadful shit right there. Who listens to that and thinks "Yeah, we really nailed it!" ????

Hannah's singing is fucking dreadful, there's no melody to speak of, the lyrics are like something a forlorn 6th grader writes on the cover of her notebook during math class. Just fucking embarrassing.

I've never understood people on here who say "I'm not buying this album," which I've heard more and more over the last decade or so, because no matter how much I dislike a Prince album within his canon, I always end up liking it quite a bit. Shit, I even give Planet Earth a spin now and then (granted, I only play 3 songs on it, but hey). But this one.

I'm a sucker for pre-orders...because I get busy, and I like the idea of going on with my life and coming home from work or school one day to find new music in the mail. So I ordered both of the nwe albums last week. But if I hadn't already ordered PlecElec, I wouldn't buy it. The only song that I halfway like so far is The Breakdown, and it suffers from such appallingly bad mastering that to me it's unlistenable. And it's really not THAT great of a track to begin with. FixUrLifeUp and PBL made me cringe when they first came out and they continue to do so. But wow, this is a new low.

The new solo Prince stuff I will at least listen to, and might end up enjoying - it's...rather desperate to sound "new," and definitely following every trend it possibly can, but hey, whatever. I've accepted the fact that he's become one of the Golden Girls.

But this drivel - this is just pathetic.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Sex is not love. Love is not sex. Putting words in other people's mouths will only get you elected.

Need more sleep than coke or methamphetamine.

Do you think Hannah may have written them? 3rdEyegirl seems like a very collaborative effort. Hannah's what, 23? Barely out of 6th grade She's certainly closer in age to 6th grade than I am to her age so if she'd written them I wouldn't expect to relate much to them. Doesn't matter to me, I never really paid much attention to lyrics and go more with the feel of the track.

This one feels bland so it's thumbs down from me anyway lol

I dont think it is that bad. Its a mid tempo, chilled out song that, whilst I agree doesnt set the world alight, is a good album song. It probably breaks up the tempo of the album quite nicely. Lyrically I agree, it isnt Shakespear, but it does have a melody. And it isnt very long.

.

Im still looking forward to PE even if Whitecaps is a wrong choice to use as a teaser for the album. They should have kept that song covered up so that it is first heard in the context of the whole album, and not push it as a standalone track to hype the album.

I agree, they should have let 'Wow' out of the bag now as it is brilliant and stands on it's own, more so than whitecaps. Whitecaps is not too bad musically, but because it does not go anywhere, it does not climax, you get a slight feeling of blandness

Exactamundo, IMO Wow will be the stand-out song off the album (and maybe both albums) so why not kick it all off with a bang. I think it would have went down well and got more casual fans interested in the new stuff

AnotherLove could be a nice surprise also, although it's a cover. But yeah, definitely looking forward to Wow (it's been since February!), PlectrumElectrum and FunknRoll. As for Marz, the length (1:48) already put me off. All other tracks (Hannah on vocals), I'm skeptical about, or I just need to convince myself this is indeed a "group effort" and not a Prince album...

Yes, the length of Marz is a bit surprising considering it maybe a single, going by the other songs listed with lengths on iTunes have been released.

.

I've only ever been looking forward to getting Wow and FunknRoll off this album. If there's any other decent songs it'll be a bonus.

This is music to slit your wrists to.
