UK chart update AOA position 67 weeks on chart 3

PlectrumElectrum out of the top 100

This confirms despite able to sell large UK venues for live gigs , Prince is a cult act that only us hardcores are interested in when it comes to selling albums .

exactly. Prince had his day, now that time has past.

you cant compare album sales now that they sell so little for everyone...album sales are dead...people aint buying music now generally....prince was a huge seller when albums sold by the millions back in the 80s and now he is huge draw as a live act now that concerts are where the big money is...he cant complain too much.

There are other artists who sell more and don't fall off the charts that fast.

Those people get radio airplay.

Maybe SNL will help the sales a bit...

interesting that last SNL he appeared BEFORE 3121 was released...

I was thinking the same thing. All his appearances for the past number of years have been promotion of his name and nothing else. At least he has some material that he's plugging on SNL

Not One Artist's Album Has Gone Platinum In 2014

http://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2014/10/16/not-one-artists-album-has-gone-platinum-in-2014/

We are now nine and a half months into 2014, and the sales numbers for the music industry are looking particularly grim. While the fourth quarter is typically when the most sales occur, things have never been quite so bad.

In 2014, not a single artist’s album has gone platinum. Not one has managed to cross that million sales mark.

One album has managed to sell over a million copies so far this year, but it’s a soundtrack. The ever-popular Frozen soundtrack may slowly be working its way down the charts, but it is by far the best selling collection this year. Though it doesn’t have any marquee names on it—those that are usually expected to sell the best—the soundtrack has managed to move 3.2 million copies so far, and with winter coming, that number is sure to rise.

By this time last year, five different CDs had hit one million units sold or more, with Justin Timberlake’s comeback LP The 20/20 Experience in front. By the beginning of Q4 in 2013, that album had moved 2.3 million copies, which is still far behind the success of Frozen.

In fact, album sales this year are so bad, you have to look all the way down to number four on the list of best-sellers to even find something that was released in 2014. The number two and three sellers are Beyonce’s surprise self-titled album and newcomer Lorde’s Pure Heroine, respectively. Both of those have moved in the area of 750,000 so far this year. Both albums were released in 2013 and moved the bulk of their numbers then, but have continued to enjoy commercial success.

Number four on the list is country star Eric Church and his album Outsiders, which is only 20-something thousand behind Lorde. Immediately behind him is Coldplay, whose Ghost Stories isn’t trailing by much.

Comparatively, 60 songs have sold one million (or more) copies, something not unusual in a world where loving a single no longer means having to purchase an entire album. While 60 is surely better than…one…when it comes to million-plus sellers, it’s not all good news. Last year, 83 songs went platinum, so digital single sales are sliding as well, but not as quickly.

We are now in Q4, and the time for record sales to spike is upon us. As more and more shoppers look for the perfect gift for loved ones, the record industry is hoping that they turn to albums, as so many have in the past. Sadly, the rest of 2014 doesn’t have many huge chart toppers left. We are not expecting albums from Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars or the handful of others who still have the power to move millions of albums. While anything is possible—especially in a post-Beyonce, drop-an-album-at-anytime kind of world—it is unlikely that anyone is coming to save 2014’s lackluster record sales.

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

As it appears AOA has plummeted out of the Top 50, I will reiterate others in being puzzled at just what the hell is going on with the marketing of this thing. First of all, you can't find copies anywhere, what did they only press a 100 K or something? Second, I just cannot believe that WB or Prince doesn't see the value in releasing any of these songs, many radio friendly to any radio station. Third the CD features a sticker that says "Fetauring the Hit Single Funknroll" Dude, it's not a hit single because it's being sat on...not that I am saying it would be a hit but WHAT THE HELL does Prince and WB hope to achieve out of the project. It is a very strong CD imho and it has been set up to meekly die a quiet death.

I would love to know the details of the deal with WB. I am just blown away that they didn't promote this album properly. Some posters and pics on times square, and their websites is all the promotion I'm aware of. I to, have been to the music section of Walmart, target and FYI, and haven't seen any AOA or Plectrum.
Very strange. Could have been a hit album (by today's record sales standards), and won over a new generation of fans. But, once again... it looks like a purposeful attempt at career suicide.
I fully expect him to pick the absolute worst songs to perform on SNL. Or he'll pick a couple of strong ones, but change it to sound too jazzy for younger buyers.

I was wrong, number 33 on hitsdailydouble with 8519 sold. Only a 9 spot drop which considering you can't find the darn thing anywhere is not too bad.

PlectrumElectrum will easily break 100,000 copies worldwide. That's not bad going given the brunt of the promo has been for AOA. SNL will push them over the 100,000 mark. Plus they've yet to tour.

I don't have the figures but I'd imagine it's on a par with the NPG albums of the 90s.

I remember seeing this quite often on CD's back in the 90's and frowning wondering WTF?!: "featuring the single hits X, Y and Z", except that at the time of the album's release only X had been released as a single, so the record company had already decided that Y and Z would be hits as well and usually they were indeed and it says a lot about how the success of a song has so little to do with its quality and the consumers' tastes lol

New chart is finally out, Ed Sheeran still sits at number one and neiother of Prince's albums has come back, both are off the charts. I got hopefully as there were 5 re entries this week and new albums and singles, often drop in the 2nd and 3rd weeks before their climb into the Top 10.

.

The 5 re entries turned out to be a Jersey Boys soundtrack album and 4 Justin Timberlake albums (20/20 Experience, Complete Experience, Future Love sounds and Justified) mainly as he is touring here at the moment. Sad really, NZ chart buyers are merely teeny boppers rather than anyone with musical taste. Old dregs like Ali Campbell and Maori Pub singers rule the charts here. I mean in New Zealand Country and Western was invincible until about 1984.

The total world wide album sales for PE are under 75,000... So easily breaking 100,000... AOA broke the 100,000 mark, PE is struggling...

AOA in it's 3rd week is at number 33 and sold 8,519. PE has been out of the TOP 60 since the 2nd week...

Even so 75,000 for an album thats had no promo, and has no clear picture of the band or the bands name on the front cover - isn't bad. It'd likely break 100,000 copies even without SNL.

We'll see from SNL if that helps any, and they've yet to tour.

At the end of the day, he's released 2 CD's at a time when there is alot of music coming out, the first time round with Warner it was so much easier to sell Millions because there was no Internet piracy etc.. people HAD to go out and buy a physical copy, whereas now its available free if people dotn wish to pay for it (Most casual fans will probably do this) along with the fact its on Spotify for free so many will think why buy it if its on there?

The fact of the matter is, you cannot compare todays sales with years ago not by a long shot so I dont know why people sound so pissed its dropped down the charts or not passed 100k sales, what does it matter to the fans? We got new music, surely thats the main goal?

He mad the Top 10 with frist week sales in some countries which is brilliant for someone like Prince with little to no promotion. That's something he can be proud of at a point when the people selling 100's of thousands of copies are constantly making TV appearances, touring, radio play and alot of money put into their promo.

Rather than looking at the Negatives look for the positives! biggrin

The major plus point is, it isnt like they will scrap the tour because of low album sales, like what may happen with other acts, the one think Prince can STILL do is fill arenas and that is where the real money is made.

Why are people gonna run out and buy an album they have already? since most outlets are overpricing the record with the bonus disc because they are pissed they gave it away for free, and some outlets are not stocking at all. I dont get why people are even shocked? We complain downloading and leaks hurt sales and this is straight up proof that if you have it free odds are most in this day and age FAN OR NOT will not get it at least not right away
