Prince vs Junie Morrison

While reading about some classic Ohio players trax review i spotted this line>\

Junie foreshadows Prince Rogers Nelson by writing, producing and playing most of the instruments himself.

PRINCE is great but is he more proficient on instruments compared to Junie?

I heard some really kick ass guitar, synth and bass playing by Junie and i must say that

Junie deserves to be more known because of his amazing work

True! Junie was in many ways a forerunner of Prince. Unfortunately he is one of those many great talents that never became big. So I guess what sets Prince apart from other highly talented and skilled musicians is that he had a vision. He wanted to become a superstar and do it on his own terms. And he had the determination to just keep going until he reached his goal no matter what. There lies Prince's genius- and in his songwriting of course.

Interesting.

I don't think you can say he deserves to be more known - he has his place in musical history. If you know your funk, you will know he was one of the key elements of P-Funk's sound and success. His solo work doesn't have as broad an appeal as Prince and it is difficult to dictate how successful you will be anyway - that relies on the record-buying public and no artist has any control over the audience's taste.

Finally, how would you define who is more proficient? They are both great on a variety of instruments. It really doesn't matter, even if you could quantify it - music is not a competition.

I love the stuff Junie did with Ohio Players, P-Funk and his solo work - and as good as he is (as a multi-instrumentalist and composer), he can't touch the level of Prince on any area of music - but Prince beats him hands down as a live performer and front man (lead voclaist/guitarist). Also prince has created at least 100 great songs as opposed to Junie's 10.
