There was all sorts of theories at the time, people quoting bible verses and what not, but we never got a clear answer other than that it was the address of his house in LA.

But it wasn't actually the address, if I remember correctly.

The first one was with one extra number. The second, was not. Those ones are inside the CD booklet. The house belonged to NBA player Carlos Boozer and his wife and Prince was renting it, like the first one. Boozer's wife tried to get into the house one time and Prince's people would not let her in. She then sued Prince the week that the album came out for making changes to the place like painting the outside purple and other things. Prince's name was not on the lease agreement but everything was changed back after the lease was over and the suit was dropped.

Psalms 31:21

New World Translation 2013

May Jehovah be praised,
For in a wonderful way,

he has shown his loyal love

to me in a besieged city.

It wasn't the address of any of his houses. And we did get an answer from him; from the stage at the 06 BET awards he announced it.

I remember at 3121 shows in Vegas he would sometimes ask the crowd "don't you feel sorry for the people gambling outside?" and I was like "no, it's fucking Vegas". I used to wonder why the hell he would want to live there for 6 months. Maybe he was on a mission from princess Jehovah?

I remember this being discussed, but I must have missed where he said it himself. I'll have to track down the video. Thanks.

Much like 1999 and other songs, Prince tends to meld end of the world themes/prophecies into his music. For the 3121 instance, this is a reference to the Mayan Calendar, where the end of the world was supposed to occur on December 21st, 2012.

Here is the breakdown on 3121

3 = a date

121 - 12/21/12 - that entire date exists within the numbers 121

Yes it was an address, but it was fake address he used on that home at the time. This is suppoerted by some documents from the town that someone pasted a few years ago on here.

Prince has delved deep into metaphysics, and thought about this date as a new birth, not the end of everything, but the start of something new, something better. A transformation into a higher dimension, where time no longer exists. Themes that his music is loaded with.

Taking the lyrics at face value, they are about a party, but taking Princes' thought process into consideration, his habit of hiding meaning in his lyrics, the title of the track itself, the time period it was released, the fact that he has spoken about a lot of far out, prophetic, metaphysical things in his music in the past, and it starts to become clear. This end date is cause for celebration as it would catapult us in the "new world" that he also speaks of constantly, a world of universal love, etc, where thoughts are reality, and telepathy is common, where time does not exist, etc.

Without going into detail, here are some supporting examples of Prince metaphysical/on the fringe themes on themes in his music.

The Akashic Records - no this is not a record company, its an etheric record of all thoughts and actions every soul that has ever existed resides in. He mentioned the Akashic Records on The Rainbow Children album.

The Third Eye, need I say more? The group, the song, and lyrically mentioned in many others.

Chakras

Astral travelling - mentioned many times in his music, and I believe there was an interview back in the day where he said he was able to do this at will. You know what? I believe it, the dude is superhuman.

He constantly talks about the barriers of reality coming down to reveal something else, many many many songs.

One Song quote

"I am the universe, the sun the moon and sea, I am the energy, for that is what I breathe, I can be contradiction, if that is all I see, but I am the universe, and the universe is me"

COMPASSION lyrics

"As zero point approaches, and the fields around you drop, thoughts become reality and it feels like time has stopped" more eveidence of the metaphysics

Universal love, universal unconscious, time not existing, themes so prevelant in his music.

I am sure there are many more examples I cannot think of at the moment.

So Prince using 3121 as a disguise for 12/21/12 is not far fetched at all. Whether Prince believes it would happen or not, who knows, but it's always intersting to dig deeper into his music. I cannot think of any other artist that keeps us on our toes like Prince does.

At the the very least, this is a possible theory some of you may not have considered.

Peace

i personally always took 3121 to mean the 31st of December, but December being 21 in reverse, so that at the bitter end of every year you could celebrate Christmas every week.

But as it stands it's merely a having it Sonny Thompson bass groove that brings the House down as soon as The Entertainer gets here!

Do do do, etc.

Awesome.
