Prince needs to dump 3rdeyegirl.com

It has no news and the store sells coffee mugs (yes, coffee mugs). No one ever visits the site either (don't lie, you don't).

It's a sorry excuse for an official site, and disrespectful to fans.

Tell me why I'm wrong? Go on, I need a good laugh.

It is getting a little tiresome. I just cant wait for him to go back to performing with the NPG doing regular non rock based, free vibe concerts. All I want are these remasters and a solo album.

Ive visited the site once in its early days. Never been back until now where curiosity got the better of me. And yup, still a rubbish site. I have very sloooooow internet and all I see is a "Loading" progress bar that doesnt progress.

.

A site with clean, lean and minimal design would have a lot more reach. Especially in these days of mobile connectivity where, the West aside, internet speeds are not very quick and the bottom of the range/mid range devices do not have the capacity to render complex websites.

.

Prince should hire a developer to create some apps for his online presence, one for iOS, one for Android and one for Windows 8/NT/Phone. He can distribute his music through the apps, update users with news and gain more reach than some Flash heavy website. He could even charge for the apps. Im pretty sure most of us org users would stump up a couple of dollars for a dedicated Prince app, by Prince himself, for their device/computer.

.

And the org should do the same or hook up to something like TapaTalk.

It's not a great site.

Here's a question, though - Do artists need a website anymore? After all - all the interactions/news/sales generally happens through other sites.

Perhaps these days, the best thing to do would be for a site to simply be a collection of links to social media profiles or a consolidated stream of content.

I say this as a qualified and formerly professional web designer. But I've found with my own musical projects, all the time/effort is spent elsewhere, on platforms that are built for interaction in a way that most websites aren't.

I mean, right now it wouldn't make much difference if 3EG website just redirected to Twitter.

This is Prince we're talking about, do we really need links to social media outlets giving us cryptic nonsense? Probably make no difference, a site with nothing useful or a site with links to nothing useful. lol

The problem with this is Prince actively removes content from all of these other outlets so there isnt anything to link to (except cryptic nonsense on Twitter which is about as useful as a bag of sand in the dessert).

Right, but at least if there's "Subscribe" links to YouTube, Ustream and such then people can choose to be notified when new stuff happens, even if he removes it at a later date.

Well I'd say u have serious emotional issues if u feel DISRESPECTED by a website falloff

.

I mean IDK, Lotusflow3r.com was a massive "fuck u" to us paying poor souls, but I don't give a damn whether artists have a good or a crappy website as long as it's free lol

I would be patient.....Prince has gone quiet. And usually when he goes quiet that means he's lining up something new. That could either mean any one of the new albums, a new tour or the Purple Rain reissue.

Prince fans, me included, are pretty impatient but ya just gotta look for the signs.

I think Websites are dead these days, people sooner look for the page on facebook or something, I cant honestly say I've checked out any other musicians official sites for a long time? All the info you need is usually in facebook, event dates and everything.

.

And lets be honest, Prince doesnt have alot to tell anyone, so pointless putting alot of money and effort into a website for a Group that he may or maynot carry on with past 3 years or so.

Artists need a website depending on how much they want to use it. With this in mind I don't see prince as needing a website or even a social media presence to be honest. All he needs is someone to announce what he is doing, the rest will happen by word of mouth.

Identity

Prince hasn't had a half-decent website since he unceremoniously shut down both the NPGMC and immediately thereafter 3121.com.

The lower I keep my expectations in this area, the easier I can manage the disappointments.

Number of times I've visited ANY musicians webpage in 2014 except for people I was checking out for the first time to see if they were any good? ZERO.

Artist webpages are becoming passe.. Its good if you want to get a first introduction to someone, otherwise I look to youtube, twitter, and fb to see whats new with them.

Change it one more time..

I can play that game. You must have serious issues if you feel like a POOR PAYING SOUL for subscribing to a website. See? Easy.

I can understand the Disrespected element at play here. It's like these big rich corporations that make billions by making what was a good product with cheaper and cheaper parts. It was the fans that made prince rich. He has plenty of money and people who could help him make a great website that sells his music. Yet he seems to throw these sites up himself as a passing thought and leaves them to rot. It would be like if your favorite organic ice cream got bought out by kellog or kraft or some other poison pushing food manufacturer and they just started cutting every corner, the food tastes bad, you can't find it in your local coop anymore, only in gas stations. You know stuff like that that is just pissing on the customer when once there was an amount of care and appreciation for the fan base. Like prince is now too big too fail so he just doesnt try anymore. It is disrespectful and unappreciative of the love and support he got on his climb to the top. At this point I wouldn't expect better from the little guy tho. It's just not realistic.

Prince is simultaneously a control freak (he doesn't like to give too much power to anyone to do too much for him.. yes he has people working for him but on very short leashes) and he's 90% more concerned with just playing and recording music than he is with managing his own business affairs.. so while you can see it as him not caring, I think that doesnt take into consideration the type of person he is. I think he does care but he'll only do enough to satify himself at any given moment and then he'll return to what he knows and loves, which is just making and playing music, finding women to entertain him and making and playing more music. Just think about how many times Prince has forgot to pay someone or to pay his own taxes when he's sitting on plenty of money. He probably has extreme ADHD. Of course the IRS COULD theoretical feel disrespected and all the other people could take his inactions and forgetfulness and backing out of things and forgetting to acknowledge or fulfil a contract personally, but to me that'd be like blaming a cat for sleeping 75% of the day, i.e. you could but to me it wouldnt make much sense.

Change it one more time..

I think it was just set up to see how many people would want to buy new 3rdeyegirl music. Now that they know there is little or no demand for new stuff, it just sits there like nothing.

I bet they can't even sell mugs. Esp. with those shipping charges. Maybe they need gas money to give Josh when he drives the two mug orders over to the post office?
