Looking for purple interview-partners

Hey everyone,

a few weeks ago I got a very interesting proposal. Because of my academic work on Prince and the practice of male Prince-famdom, I was offered to write a book, abou male Prince Fans.

The University of Iowa Press will publish the book after reconsideration by the end of 2015.

So I am looking for interview- partners.

If you would like to help to engage the discourse about Prince and his fans,

u should be:

considering yourself as male and Prince-fan for at least 20 years.

I look forward to talk to you about your own purple-history.

I can't lie. After I say I'm a prince fan, I am compelled to say that "I'm not all about the high heels and mascara and I ain't got no posters....dude can just throwdown musically."

I've long theorized that many Male Prince fans are:
- short
- gay or straight, but identify with Prince as a model of sexiness that is out of the norm
- are or wish they were multi talented
- independent spirits, with a measure of egomania
- sometime have a higher voice -- especially if they are not short
- if they are very musically inclined, simply admire his talent, especially if they are into guitar or funk.

I am some of these things: rather short, obsessed with music, gay but prince ain't my type, creative, sort of a loner. Been a Prince fan for over 30 years.

Hit me up. I've made a documentary about Prince for national UK radio, and my co-producer on it used it as part of his PHD. So I understand the academic angle. I'd definitely be down for an interview.

Depending on the nature of the book, I would be willing. I am brutally honest in my opinions. I know some around here are either so disgustingly positive that they think Tony M rapping about manure on My Name Is Prince was profound, and others are so crazy negative that they hate every single thing he has done since 1990 or so.

I have pretty much close to unconditional love for his career from 1978-1988, and from 1989-2014 have a lot of love for him...more so in the studio than live, which puts me at odds with a lot who feel he is the greatest ever live, and seem to think his studio work has been awful recently.

I on the other hand, like most of his studio creations, but get sick of live medleys, crowd flunkys shouting at the top of their lungs, etc.

Hello, I've been a Prince fan since 1984... I am 35 years old now and still consider myself a huge Prince fan, Prince-scholar I am not but I am very knowledgable of his music from 1978 until now.

Hit me up!!!

I fit the description so feel free to contact me. I'd much rather do it thru a written chat on Skype or Facebook than on a webcam, though, but if u absolutely need the audio/video then OK it can also be on webcam thru Skype.

.

Peace smile

OP asked for male's who've been fans for at least 20 years.
Out of curiosity, how long have you been a fan?

Congratulations on your project! Feel free to send me an orgnote. I'm a fan from 1990 and I write about music, Prince included, from an academic approach, so I'm really interested in your work. biggrin

I'm definitely down to be an interview-ee lol.Been a die hard Prince since 1991. Actually discovered P during my 'gangsta rap' phase when I was 13 and he broadened my whole view musically. A lot of older fans jumped ship by '91 and I was just discovering him. Probably why I love 90's Prince as much as any other decade.
Good music makes me happy.

Will the book be better written than the original post?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No, I'm a professional musician, that's my main thing.

The documentaries, I do on the side. To date I've done one about Tupac for the BBC, and the "25" series for XFM, with 12 episodes each focusing on different albums from 1986. So there was "Parade", there was "The Queen Is Dead" by The Smiths, "Black Celebration" by Depeche Mode, "Master of Puppets" by Metallica, etc.

I pitched a few ideas this year to a couple of companies I know, but no bites. So back to the drawing board, maybe I'll do another one on something next year. I don't mind so much, cos I'm busy with other projects for the next 6 months.
