The movie was a mess, but honestly let's call it what it is...a low-budget extended music video that was loosely based on Purple Rain.

The soundtrack is good. I was underwhelmed by the non-Prince tracks to be completely honest. In fact, the songs attributed to The Time make me downright ANGRY. "Shake" makes me want to hurt somebody, it's that bad.

But some of my fav Prince songs are on that album..."Still Would Stand All Time", "Question of U", "Joy In Repetition", "Elephants & Flowers"...I even like "Graffiti Bridge" (just have to be in the mood).

"Release It" is a song that I'm on the fence about. Sometimes I think it's good, sometimes I think it's bad. I appreciate the unconventional beat and arrangement, but it can be "too much". Much like "HollyRock".

What came first "Under the Cherry Moon" or "The Question of U" in the studio? Very similar but with different styles of arrangement.

Love this song, a haunting classic and perhaps the only one on the soundtrack. That movie and album suck ass.. Graffiti Bridge is the only original Prince (1978-1992) album I just can't get into... I used to like NPG but it's become cornier as the years have passed.. Can't Stop this Feeling is ok, I can enjoy Elephants & Flowers sometimes but I hate the title . The ones I really love are Thieves in the Temple (the remix is even better), We Can Funk, and Joy in Repetition. There are definitely some great songs on the album, but it's so messy and full it's hard to enjoy them properly.

Purple Rain should have been the album with associated artist tracks (Modernaire, Sex Shooter, Jungle Love) instead of this album

at an early stage,this song was going to be the first single.I think a video was filmed for it,before "Thieves In The Temple" was selected instead.

I first started listening to Prince about this time, and GB was my first album. For years I didn't care about getting any The Time albums, as I hated their songs on GB so much... I now can listen to Love Machine (although I prefer Prince's bootleg) and The Latest Fashion, but Release It and Shake... Not going to listen to them in a Hurry... The rest of the album has some brilliant moments and, together with D&P, it will always have a place in my heart for being the first...

My most favorite song from that album is Joy and Repetetion. Love me (Joy) *hand clap*...but even that isn't worth that horrible movie.

As much as I like Joy, having him insert that stupid Eye No/Alphabet St segue after We Can Funk made no sense. Joy had an amazing opening with the haunting linn drum that was reduced to repeating a f*&^ing stupid interlude. I hate interludes...they may be fun the first time you hear an album, but they are horrible after repeated listening. I clown on the ones on the Gold Experience in my signature on here, and the hack job on the intro to Joy still bothers me to this day.

And to answer this....there is a reason they put the song on the cd. You don't have to watch the mess of a movie to enjoy it. U2's Bono wrote a movie script that is in direct competition for worst movie ever..."The Million Dollar Hotel." It's basically a bunch of people in a hotel who mumble quitely, so you don't really understand them or the plot. Probably worse than Bridge...but not much worse.
