More worst scenarios:

.

1. All WB Prince albums are instantly taken off sale and rereleased 1 a year remastered, so we get For You, this year and Prince next year, up to Chaos and Disorder in 2032. When they come back, they are full priced and have poor remastering and nothing else, no cover notes, bonus tracks or anything.

.

2. All Prince albums are ordered by WB, to have a sticker placed on the cover saying "Top albums at a nice price, get all of your WB classics at a great price" - and do nothing else, they merely sticker all stock they have. Yet the discount turns out to be trivial or non existent (All the record stores have generally have all the classic albums under $10 each now).

.

Best Scenarios:

.

4U, Prince, Dirty Mind, Controversy - all issued remastered, with a few extra trax thrown in and copious notes.

.

1999 - Remastered and notes added, also unreleased trax on a CD - Xtralovable (1982 version, not hideous 2011 version), Moonbeam Levels, Lust u always, 2nd coming, Turn it up, Strange way of saying I love U, Purple Music, Dance to the beat and Baby Your a Trip (Prince 1982 Studio version). Also the Bsides How come u don't call me anymore and Horny Toad.

.

Purple Rain - discussed in former post

.

ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT, The Black Album and Lovesexy - all have basic packages, with remastered album, bsides, unreleased trax and a deluxe version with a live concert DVD/CD thrown in from appropriate tour.

.

. Batman - Because of copyrights- can't touch it.

.

. Crystal Ball - 5cd extravaganza of all Dream Factory/Crystal Ball (Dec 1985 - Feb 1987) tracks including Camille songs, SOTT earlier songs like Strange Relationship full of sitar, explanatory book and remastered surround sound for the full experience, the full version of Adonis and Bathsheba as well.

.

GB, D&P, Lovesymbol - Can't do much more except remaster albums (All have fairly good sound anyway) - Bsides and dance mixes too I guess, maybe a Tour CD/DVD - GB = Nude Tour, D and P = 1992 World Tour, Symbol = Act I

.

Come, TGE, - as above, some mixes of earlier versions of songs and unreleased - Poem, Days of Wild etc, maybe issue these two albums as one package, remastering not that necessary.

.

Chaos and Disorder/The Vault - Already contract filler collections, leave as they are, maybe reissue them so they are available to die hard fans.

.

The Hits/Bsides, Ultimate, Very Best of - reissue with remastered versions of songs

.

Remastering means sound enhancement, not overdubbing or changing lyrics, leave the music as it is, merely enhance the sound biggrin

Who said that?

Who said that?

Adorecream said it--pay attention! biggrin

I'm pretty sure that even if there were copyright issues, a little bit of money would work it out. It's not like the film people are doing anything with the Batman album themselves.

Worst: Purple Rain CD with the new album being the bonus disc!

uh oh. That actually seems possible.

No, it doesn't.

Just like editing or removing Darling Nikki isn't possible.

Well, only three more months...

Seems not impossible or unheard of to me.
Blondie released a greatest hits cd this year and with it
you got a second cd of all new music.
Why not release a 3 cd set of PR with a second cd of bonus
tracks and a third cd of Princes new cd.

Sounds good, but some fans would weary of having to buy Purple Rain again and with the additional cost of it being a 3CD package.

.

Also some purists may just want the Purple Rain elements and saddling it with a disc of music that is 30 years younger (Well at least 27 in the case of some songs) seems cloying. Especially if the only thing tying the music is the same performer who did it. But comparing the magnificence of Purple Rain to the meh quality of most the new music is a cardinal sin.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

For my best case I started with Adorecream's option, but remove any pictures or clothing and the vinyl, to get a straight av focussed pack.

.

  • CD1 PR Remaster
  • CD2 Outtakes, demos unheard stuff
  • CD3 PR Concert
  • CD3 Ice Cream Castles
  • CD4 Apollonia 6
  • CD5 Glamorous life
  • 2 DVDs as 20th anniversary set
  • Live Concert DVD

~$100?

.

Worst case

Warners thinks that there's not enough buyers in Western Countries and goes for a download only package at a price just a little less than the CDs would have been. But release a beautiful doz. disc package in Japan only, which costs a fortune to ship anywhere else.

Lets just go somewhere (we can funk)

MJ did something similar: released a greatest hits package alongside a new HIStory album.

I think if a group like Smashing Pumpkins can release an ambitious multi-disc box set for an album that didn't exactly set the world on fire (Adore), then Purple Rain should be outrageous.

The best > the reissues will be "teased" until the end of time with no release!

The worst >the reissues are canceled!

People keep saying reissues but only 1 has been announced. Sure Prince is getting the tapes back but who says he'll do more. I think he's only doing PR to get his tapes back. Then he'll lock them away.
