What the Breakdown used to sound like when Prince was killing it

If you want to hear a song that is the epitamy of what Prince was yearning to capture with the Breakdown than google the lyric video of Shawn Mendes "life of the party".Even though its just a sixteen year old kid who didnt write the song and the song is not in the Prince style this is the type of meloncholy whistful song Prince used to master with songs like Electric Intercourse and Sometimes it snows. Its not really his fault obviously as he stated clarvoyently in 85.Even the most masterful musicians only have so many notes in them.Sigh.Time is merciless.

whofarted You've got to be joking, that song is absolutely shit. I don't like The Breakdown that much either but comparing it to that drivel is ridiculous.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

If I were a 14 y/o girl I might find that song interesting. But anyhow.. thanks but no thanks. I couldn't make it past the cheesy chorus.

Change it one more time..

You guys are all out of it.Teenage girls or not a top trendinf song has to be a great pop song in the mold of a Beatles I wanna hold your hand or Princes I wanna be your lover. When Prince was criticized for being teenage fluff while I wanna be your lover has withstood the test of time for being a great song and a great hook.Somethimg Prince couldnt muster now to save his life. And dont know this guy Mendes from Adam.

I was gonna write a huge hit about sex and sin
But then I found jah
I was gonna write a big smash hit and send it in
But then I found jah
I was gonna write it with my phatty purple pen
But then I found jah, but then I found jah, but then I found jah...

Forgetful dirge. Comparing this shite to LRC? You need your head looked at. It has zero of the charm of the songs you mention.
Those songs are still being discussed 30 and 40 years after they were released. That pile of unimaginative crap has gone out of my head already.
And why does a 'trending' pop song automatically have to be good?
Pile of overly earnest wank.
don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

I Wanna Be Your Lover has withstood the test of time? Maybe. Not for me.

At any rate, idiots need to stop believing that popularity has anything to do with quality. Basically what this moron is saying is that if we just took all the number one hits from the last uear and made a mixtape we'd have the best album in the world. Jesus.

This drivel is slightly better than that bag of dicks known as Phillip Phillips, but just barely. Some of the most cliche, written-by-committee lyrics I've ever heard.

My dear child, that garbage was written soley to make money, the emotion is false and designed to get little girls to believe Disney Princess love is real and to hopefully become the song for prom this year. Nothing else. If you believe there is any sincerity in that song, if you believe for a second that his label didn't have him adjust it until it fit the focus group data for the greatest demographic impact then you, my friend, are a teenage girl. I'd guess closer to 7th grade than 12th.

Pure garbage lyrically.

Musically, it's pretty typical of the shit that's floating around the airwaves these days. Not even worthy of analysis.

Good day, young lady.

Listen Shithead a moron and an idiot hardly.I fully understand the falseness and manipulation of pop music. And nonone ever said that evert hit was worth its chart position.if anything the opposite is true. But if it was so simple to write a marvelous hook than artists that once were the hooksters would do it for years and so would you instead of pretending to be an intellectual on a fan forum. You in your pretentious musical snobberry probaly think anything played on top 40 radio is empty and contrived. This song is classic pop soul full of the emotions that that entails.
