Prince/WB: What albums will be remastered??

PR is a "given"...

1999 is a "maybe"...

SOTT is a "must"...

Dirty Mind is a "have to"...

TGE is a "I wish"!

Outside of that...I am not sure what we profitable for WB...

The ones IMO will NEVER be remastered...

For You

Prince

Contoversy (should be though)

ATWIAD

Parade

Lovesexy

Batman

All albums in the 90's and 00's

Purple Rain will be the only remaster. He'll have his masters back. Lock them in the dungeon. Throw away the key. He isn't interested. He only said yes to PR so he could have the tapes back. I hope I'm wrong btw.

U can consider as a rumor for the moment....from a supposed insider: Anthology from Dirty mind to PR + unreleased stuff is considered as a work in progress by WB right now!

Maybe bigchick might add some corrections?

Prince can't be bothered with clearing remasters what with his burgeoning coffee mug business, endless tweaks to Josh and Hannah's record, and twitter chicks hitting his phone up night and day. I'm sure from Prince's perspective it's a silly proposition anyway. Dirty Mind and SOTT? How you going to remaster albums that never really got mastered in the first place? biggrin

Do not get your hopes up. Let's get a new album and hopefully PR and see where he goes from there

Purple Rain, and a specially created disc called "Tony M" it edits out all of Prince's annoying music and singing, and just puts on Tony's excellent rapping on the disc in crystal clear remastered audio.

Oh, I got that backwards. Could they edit Tony out?

If WB and Prince are smart they will release them all at once just as The Beatles/Capitol have done. A major boxset (both vinyl, CD and (virtual) digital releases (seperately of course)) containing all of his WB albums all remastered and repackaged as well as releasing them individually to give people (casual fans) a chance to pick and choose.

This capitalises on the release as a major event and also gets people buying on the heels of that marketing push rather than releasing them in stages and letting momentum fizzle out over a relatively short period of time.

The boxset is an idea I have posted on several threads on here, and I also cited the Beatles set as the base for my reasoning. Releasing every single disc up to 1996 would not make sense. Save for PR and 1999, individual discs won't sell that much. The symbol album is a great example, it may have sold a million upon release, but nobody is going to rush to buy it. You can forget about anything after Come...

Plus...another big point. People like to praise Dirty Mind...but it only sold 500,000....and how many of those copies sold after Purple Rain caused people to go back and buy the old albums? Around The World In A Day at 3 million is his third best selling release, but a large portion of those buyers were Purple Rain bandwagoners who were put off by Prince's change in direction, and a lot of those people simply jumped off forever with Parade....

Yes, there are diehards who would buy every single release if there was no box set, but a big box set makes the most sense from a profit standpoint...with individual releases for maybe the top 5 selling individual albums...and even then, they would have to be stocked with extras to get many to buy the same release for a second time.

And I will close this by saying....as I always do, just go to the 4.99 bin at Best Buy, and look at the major artist remasters in huge stacks not moving product....remasters sold great from 1991-2005...but since then, the sales have been going lower and lower...

Prince & Warners missed the boat a long time ago on this, and are simply hoping there are a few physical product buyers left...but there won't be a line outside the few places that still sell cds to go buy a Controversy remaster....I will, of course....but who else will?

Every Prince album, including side projects, would be profitable. Now WB being a major they may not be interested below a certain margin of profit because they're used to doing big bucks, but profitable in an absolute, yes.

Once again people tend to forget how many obscure albums are being remastered and/or reissued on smaller labels every year. If A.C. and Fruit At The Bottom are profitable, so would every Prince album/side project.

But maybe past the big ones a smaller label would be more appropriate than WB to do the job.

Plenty of other artists catalog is remastered/rereleased that sell far less than Prince.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

In a wrecka stow near where I live, I've been standing behind someone buying the Dirty Mind vinyl the last two times I've been there. Coincidence, yes, but I was happily surprised each time.

Thedance is not "some guy", he's a valued contributor to this forum. The wiki figures are accurate but far from being precise (going gold doesn't mean u're not 10 copies away from getting platinum) and are only showing the figures from the US (and occasionally UK and Canada) and actually there happens to be many other countries in the world.

I didn't say "some guy", I said "guy" which is just a turn of phrase, and there was nothing derogatory meant by it, though you felt the need to jump to his defence.

And I'm aware that there are more many countries in the world.

So get off your high horse, you patronising knobend.
