I agree 100% that Prince and any artist should have control over their music. But it is an absolute tragedy to know that he owns this kind of material and he chooses not to release it. This is pop history: make it public. As part of a documentary on the making of Purple Rain, as a video disk in the upcoming 30th anniversary, whatever... Prince, it is your right to do what you want with your music. Just do the right thing. Don't think only of the money, think of your reputation and your legacy as well. To me, you are the most important person in pop history. Let more people understand why!

sometimes,I think that Prince doesn't really care about his legacy.

i think it's maybe less that he doesn't care about his legacy and more that he really doesn't understand how he's damaged it over the last few years. he really DOES live in 'princeworld' where he believes he is the biggest pop/rock star ever and the only reason his new music isn't played on the radio is because the industry is dead-set against him.

.

he genuinely does NOT understand that there is an entire generation who gets ALL of their music off youtube and online and they literally have NO idea who he is. he never licenses music, his songs have disappeared... but he's still happy living in princeworld where he is the highest paid live artist alive and that's all that really matters...

I think what highlighted that for me was a press conference/interview I saw with him (think it was in France) a few years back. Perhaps I've forgot the fine details but I seem to recall it seemed he clearly had a 'cool' answer and moody exit planned when a particular question was asked...but it never came up because nobody else was interested in anything but the show he was promoted and certainly not in 'Prince the JW' or 'Prince the civil rights activist' ...he had to say "ask me about..." , they did, he did his little rehearsed answer act and left.

He may well be planning to do something with these boots

.

He's had how many years now? And all we've gotten is reports on more stuff being added to the vault (except for a brief period in which he released archive tracks through the NPGMC). See Kevin Smith's stand-up act where he talks about the PA who had directed a bunch of videos that went straiught into the vault. Yeah, those things are really gonna be worth a kazillion come 2030, people will be craving for unreleased videos from the era of NPS and Rave.

.

He is running a business not a charity.

.

He's running it badly. And don't give me that "he's doing fine" BS. If he was doing so fine, why did he re-sign with WB? Why bother with that when "those master recording rights would be reverting back to him automatically" anyway (hint: they wouldn't)? Why hasn't he released an album in ages? Why isn't he releasing albums worldwide? Why is he once again bitching about record companies in interviews -- did someone force him to re-sign with WB?

.

Let's wait and see what he is going to do unless some of you are really into having something you are not suppose to have or just to damn cheap to pay for it.

.

Over and over people are saying "we want to pay for it but we ain't getting the option." You can go back 15 years and see people post that opinion on amp.

.

Prince could have set up an official web presence back in 1996 or so, using a simple, easy to remember URL, and built on that presence over the years, offering downloads of new music and live recordings in various formats. Instead we got short bursts of album-centric websites, URLs that disappeared sooner than they were memorised, services that were rip-offs or mediocre at best, lossy WMAs that stopped working after Prince lost interest, etcetera. Look at his online presence now: almost completely centered around 3rd Eye Girl -- who the fuck searches for "3rd Eye Girl" when they want Prince?

.

And your advise is "let's wait and see"? Until wait? Until one day he stumbles into a workable solution and manages to stick with it for an extended time?

.

Lemme warn everyone now: these remasters will likely be the last chance you'll have at buying "classic Prince". Once Prince gets his hands on those masters, who knows what's gonna happen -- but if the past 18 years are anything to go by, expect many trips to 2nd hand stores and crummy websites, because Prince has shown over and over again that he cannot be relied upon to keep anything in print. Once he's gotten paid, he stops caring.

sad, but true. good thing the vinyl masters of his albums still sound great. (CD on the other hand...)

Why don't we wait and see what going to happen with the WB and even if he does nothing it is his property to do as he pleases.

His music is not played on mainstream radio because he is not on a major label. He just sold out 50k seat arena so he really is not doing any thing that is not being done by a lot of older artist.

sorry, but when independent artists debut at number one in the modern world, that explanation just doesn't cut it. he sells out arenas because he is still great live. but could you imagine a radio station playing fallinlove2nite? i couldn't. i literally can't listen to that song (and i've tried many times) because of how painful it is to listen to. people on here are willing to blame everything for prince's failure but the man himself...

-- Please name the independent artist who are high on the Billboard chart and getting radio airplay. Prince pulled it off with Lotus project which stayed on the Billboard chart for over a year but still did not get any play on the radio.Do you have any idea how much money it takes to get a song on the radio? I think he has a good chance with WB because they have the ability to give the music the push to radio but it is going to be a hard sell due to his age and music being so youth oriented. I have enjoyed some of the music he had put out over the last few years but the avg person does know about it because they simply did not hear on the radio.
