What do yall think of a Prince presents:THE MINNEAPOLIS ALLSTARS?

I think Prince should do an All stars cd with this personnel:Prince and Jesse Johnson on guitar,Sonny Thompson on Bass,Morris E Day on drums,Jimmy Jam and Dr.fink on keyboards and jerome benton on cowbell and mirror!

now THE cd should be co-produced by Prince and Jam & Lewis!

songs written by Prince (8 tracks) Jam and Lewis (4 tracks) and Jesse (2 tracks)

this would be a huge artistic and commercial success(jam and lewis would make sure it has hits regular folks like)

do you think this will work? any changes in lineup ?

SoulAlive

I like this idea.I would love for Prince to work with Morris,Jam and Lewis, and the others, from time to time. Some truly funky music could be made by these people working together!

bashraka

I think that idea would give Prince a heart attack. Prince can't even bring himself to attend Bobby Z's Annual Charity event at First Avenue where Prince's former associates perform.

How in the world are you going to have a Prince backing band called "The MPLS All-Stars" and not have Eric Leeds on tenor saxophone?!For shame. I would give both my testicles to witness a live performance with Prince and Eric. And maybe Shelia on drums. Or John Blackwell. Or Michael B. Or Bobby Z for that matter. And Levi or Brown Mark on bass. And that's it - okay maybe Jill Jones on back-up vocals. (Obviously my dream band would include Wendy & Lisa but I don't want this thread to devolve into the usual "They had nothing to do with his best songs" vs. "They had everything to do with his best songs" bullshit).Ladies and gentleman...Mr. Madhouse, Eric Leeds!

Because then that would make it the MPLS PITTS All-Stars? Leeds isn't MPLS or Minneapolis Sound.

It's bad enough that people reduce an entire cities musical sound to Prince and Co.

By all accounts he appears to live in Minneapolis now, so I'm not bothered by the fact that he was born in an adjacent state. Leeds/Peterson Music have a contact address in MPLS, they have only played gigs in MPLS, and Eric's LinkedIn profile states that he lives in MPLS. Not to mention the fact that to me, when I think of Prince music (the ultimate "Minneapolis sound") I think of Eric Leeds. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Makes too much sense. Prince would have a problem with it.
