The Next Evolution of Prince?

Hey y'all, When P came out with the heavy guitar, 3rd eye girl concept I was really excited about the new organic sound and look of Prince. It was a nice departure IMO from the "vegas hits act" that he had been doing for the last few years. Even thought I thought that his choice of bandmates could have been better, I still liked the concept, the clothes, and yes even the 'fro. However, all the teasing, stops, starts, mismanagement, and lack of direction don't seem to be helping Prince's legacy with both the general public and hardcore fans alike. Is it time for P to shut down 3rd eye girl and reinvent himself once again? If so, what do you think would be the best direction/concept for the next evolution of Prince?Peace & B Wild!JJ

U might not like this answer, but I want Prince 2 keep doing his own thang. Fuck sales n trying to be categorized w generations after him.

But, if I could advise, I seek the sensual funky Prince...less horns, more boards...a strong bass player from the hood & fine sisters on stage

Peace
No justice, No peace

Cyberfunk: Prince and the rest of his new band dressed in colourful freaked out space suits, playing killer modern funk with big electronic beats and production. Minneapolis Funk 2014 style!

No trashy EDM or anything too generic sounding, but something like Prince writing the basic songs, playing most instruments and doing vocals, with Disclosure doing the beats and co-production. All this accompanied by fun lyrics, or meaningful and deep lyrics, no preaching nor judgemental views.

Thanks Prince, bring it on! lol

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Write some SONGS again! Stop trying to have hits and to appeal to a teenage audience that is not going to notice you anyway! Head off to Cuba and play with some local musicians like Ry Cooder did! Anything, anything except presenting us with old wine in new bags
Peace! Be wild! Thank U!

indeed i agree. a heavyset drummer wouldn't hurt either. he could play rock but in a more Funkadelic style. Maybe just bass, drums P on guitar, a keyobard player, sax and a trumpet. slim sextet.

I agree. And not particularly because I favour more recent material over another era

In my view, it's somewhat presumptious to think that a comment or a thread or an article is going to change or kickstart Prince.

He is, and always has been, guided by his own muse. What guise that muse takes is open to speculation: his varied musical influences, those close to him, a managerial word to the wise, his instinct or his God? I suspect fan reaction has sometimes made him think, but it appears to be low down the list.

It seems to me that Prince has often made artistic decisions DESPITE what others have said. That has its advantages because kicking against convention can be thought-provoking and shocking and creative. On the other hand, it can bite the hand that feeds you, and sometimes that hand is proffered in your own best interests.

I attended a couple of concerts earlier this year. Prince performed some old classics with hunger. His performance of 'The Love We Make', a song not known (I would guess) to the vast majority of the audience, appeared to receive the sort of appreciation that it richly deserves - with what seemed to be genuine appreciation rather than politeness. His voice on songs such as 'Nothing Compares 2 U' was as good as it has ever been. Most impressive to me - he worked the stage for over 2 hours with incredible energy to deliver a memorable show.

I don't think I am what has been described here and elsewhere as a sycophant - when I discuss Prince with friends and work colleagues who think of me as a huge fan, they are surprised to discover some of my less positive views on some of Prince's music. But what he releases is his choice and what I like is my choice.

I will queue to see Prince perform live because he is, in my view, the greatest living performer of his genre of music. I will also queue to see some tremendous classical musicians of our age, to see some great actors on stage and to view tremendous exhibitions of art. I might have my own views on what I would like to hear and see in concert halls and galleries and theatres, but I see no real value in writing on messageboards or to other artists to advise them on their next theatrical production, composition, painting, sculpture, installation or other artistic endeavour.

Artists make their own choices - and sometimes those can be very frustrating (yes, I sound off privately wondering why something has not yet been released, or why - to see someone perform - I have to cancel everything and queue), but I'd generally choose to spend my life seeking out another great piece of art that I can hear or see next week or next month than venting on what should have been or should be, when it comes to artistic choices.

No. I want to see more of what this band can do. I say do at LEAST one other album with the current 3EG then maybe change a person or two in the lineup.

Change it one more time..
