Can we bring Prince to Summerstage in 2015?

Summerstage (ticketed and free concerts in NY) will be celebrating its 30th anniversary. Summerstage has a campaign going with Wedemand that offers concert goers an opportunity to lobby for their favorite artist to come and perform there for the 30th anniversary... My vote is for Prince to come and do his thing! Let's give this thing a shot and see what the results may be! http://www.wedemand.com

I can imagine it being a shot in the dark...but what could be bad about creating some demand for him there? And it would be a perfect promotional spot for his new lps!

Similarly, I would love to see him at summerstage in Central Park or in Brooklyn!

No way. They would either ticket it, in which case, I'd rather see him in a better location without chances of rain outs, or there would be such a crazy line, you would regret ever voting for it.

Well, it's not like I haven't paid for a ticket before to see him and normally ticket prices at Summerstage are like $40? I've paid triple that to see him at a standing only show. When isn't there a crazy line to see him? And you can always become a City Parks Foundation Summerstage member to skip the line and have a sheltered seat if it's really that crucial. I have voted for him and I don't have any regrets. I would love to see him at Summerstage '15! Thank you for sharing your opinion though!

What LPs? I just see vapourware.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

You mean the City Winery show?

I'd much rather Prince played Coney Island, or the Martin Luther King Jr. concert series in Wingate Field (Brooklyn). Even the Great Lawn. I've been to a lot of Summerstage shows and they're a mess.

.

Chances are his real fans would get shut out if he played there...and it's still first come first serve even if you're a member, and their VIP lists include city dignateries, music industry folks, and all the rest. A Prince show shouldn't turn into an endurance test like a Cronut line.

I've worked at Summerstage (currently working there now) and attended concerts there. My experience wasn't like that. I will agree that it is first come, first serve basis and that sucks but I believe that if Prince performed there the organizational aspect of concert going would be at the highest standards. Especially if its ticketed. I waited to see Prince play BACKUP to Tamar when she was on her promotional tour for 4 hours in the hot Miami sun on the South Beach strip outside the club. Then once I got inside waited another hour for them to come out on stage so I'm a bad one to talk about endurance with because my own is infinite when it comes to a Prince concert/sighting... cool

So you know about the doors opening *after* the event start times, and mandatory bagchecks?

You know about the single public entrance (used to be two), and security barriers inside the venue penning off free movement?

Do you know that they actually cancel shows, without rescheduling, when there's a storm?

Next you can ask your boss about the near riots they've had at events like the first Nas show.

I will say the other Summerstage venues ouside of Central Park are run better, and it's improved in the last two years, but Summerstage is the worst venue for an artist like Prince to play.

For the past two years I've worked there...

Doors have opened on time, security barriers are mostly near backstage, member tents, photo pit and around the trailers the celebs lounge at. Shows are canceled when its lightening and thundering which makes sense, right? I've not experienced any riots so I can't speak on that.
It sucks that you've had mainly negative experiences and stuff to say but I would venture as so far to assume that things have changed since then maybe?
Prince playing at Summerstage would be a monster step up and would be a fantastic experience in such an intimate setting for fans at EVERY level. And please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he do Good morning America at Bryant Park? If he could perform there surely he wouldn't mind rocking Central Park to its core! yes

The best show I've seen of him. Changed my life. Especially since he grabbed my hand at that show and placed his guitar right in my arms. NPGMC photogs took a pic of it and put it on the website!

Bryant Park is a larger. Summerstage is penned off. You're right, it's improving but still not the same as pre-9/11. Before the firelane and barrier at the back of the astroturf. I still think it's a bad venue for Prince, but I'm democratic enough to want Prince to play a larger, outdoor free show instead. So let's agree on that much.
