ONE PRINCE SONG THAT SHOWS THE FULL DEPTH OF THE MANS TALENT

If you had to pick one song that show cased Prince musical talent. I have found myself digging back into all my Prince back catalogue after the unbelievable UK live shows. I dragged a few friends who were not big fans and I compiled several different cd compilations to showcase the mans talent.

My one song would be

Sign of the Times

Funky, dark, lyrically strong, experimental also a great live track as shown of the Sign of the Times video.

"Crystal Ball" immediately jumps to mind! Epic, mysterious, filled to the brim with references to love, sex, and God, jumping all over the genre map.

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Usually when I want 2 surprise someone about prince's talents I play N.E.W.S. or 16. They will inevitably ask "Who's the music?" and I'll say "It's prince" and they'll b like "Really? Wow! I didn't xpect him 2 do that, too. It's cool!"

I agree..Purple Rain shows his talent in a nutshell. Cliche but true.

Doesn't show what he's very famous for: danceable music with inventive beats

that's what blew up with 1999 the album.

"The Rainbow Children" song. Prince's compositional prowess is in all of its glory. The horn charts, the string harmonies, various drum tempo changes and songwriting is beyond exceptional. Last but not least his vocal background harmonies is to die for.

Temptation - raw, extremely sex-driven, vulgar, emotional and also spiritual. Gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.

There is no real single song, the more of his talent you showcase in a single song the less you get to showcase his ability to write great pop songs. But if I have to choose.... eh..... Shockadelica maybe. Couldn't be anyone else.

Okay so are you saying I can't share my opinion now? Should I be forced by your unstable overreaction to stop typing responsive thoughts in the part marked response? I was just responding to add debate and thought on a discussion board. Just don't post if you are insecure. My God...

I would have to say Question Of U. That song has always been EXTREMELY beautiful and haunting to me. The lyrics are abstract yet relatable, the drum machine programming is simple, yet tight and powerful, the music and sound effects have just enough "quirk" to them to make it more than just a regular old pop tune, and the guitar! This may just be my favorite Prince solo ever! Listening to this song in simulated surround is truly an experience.

There are so many

Darling Nikki
Something in the Water
1999
Joy in Repetition
Girls & Boys
The Ballad of Dorothy Parker
When Doves Cry
Bambi

Absurd that all of those songs came from the same musician.... Just absurd!

There's so many that i can't really choose.

At this moment though I'm really feeling Elephants and Flowers.

Ive always loved that song and after finally listening 2 his Dakota room version, (after procrastinating 4 months)i fell in love with it all over again. I'm not necessarily saying that E&F's shows the 'full depth' of Prince's talent. What i am saying though is that, that song is a bad motherfucker. No doubt.

Also i think the song, The Dance, is an extremely underrated gem.
