Because I'm getting sick of the Org's mistreatment of actual news. Sure, there has to be discussion, but just look at how this fact was immediately shot down, completely ignoring that a) retailers have often been the ones to break news of upcoming releases, and b) a retailer isn't going to just put up a display for shits and giggles.

.

The reality is that this is a fact, a verifiable one, and should be treated as such. But because of the Org's outdated forum structure and because of the lousy attitude towards news, this either gets buried or a bunch of know-nothings invade and shit all over it.

.

Look at the current front page: why are there several news items, each mentioning ONE DATE of an ongoing tour? It would be far better to have topics, e.g. one about the current tour that gets updated with additional dates and each update pointing to a relevant thread; ditto for the PR anniversary release, etcetera. IMHO the homepage should inform the casual fan immediately of the current state of things in Prince-world; right now it is a mess where you simply have to figure out what is important yourself.

.

(Oh, and why is there still a box for an utterly failed Kickstarter for a documentary that never was gonna happen? Why was that put there in the first place?)

.

And I bet we would have had a state of the art website like that (and plenty more), if Prince hadn't start waging a war on his fans from 1997 onwards.

As to the idea that a lack of promo means anything...They just had the "Prince signed a deal and all of this is coming" announcement a month and a half ago. That was pretty hyped... it's a re-release (and such things don't seem to get all that much promo really)... just how much promotion are you guys expecting?

.

I would expect there to be some build-up, really, especially considering part of the target audience for this release are readers of magazines like Mojo and Q etc., and those usually have deadlines weeks in advance. I would expect there to be some tie-in "exclusive" articles where some band members are talking to journalists etc.

.

My biggest fear is that if this really is coming now (and it kinda makes sense, since this would be close to the record's original release date), that there simply hasn't been enough time to make this a genuinely great collection. Unless there has been tons op preparation, but I don't really see WB spending a lot of time and effort on a release that hinges on Prince signing a contract with them. Then again, who knows...

This is pure speculation but I can't help but wondering what kind of impact prince's post remasters announcement declarations about label execs, even if he didn't name WB specifically (the beach statement) had on WB execs. Were I them I'd be really tempted to think "OK, he hasn't changed, we gave him what he wanted but even though he's not, never ever, gonna stop bashing us publicly and if something goes wrong or sales don't fit his expectation he's gonna fall on us like it's 1993 and blame us and bash us in the press". In that case the logical reaction could be "if he's gonna make it hard for us and complain anyway, why even bother, let's just release the shit, make some quick and easy cash with it before he gets mad at us and try and withdraw from whatever arrangement we have made to give his old albums to Sony or Universal or let them rot in the vault 4ever". I mean it's never good 4 a business relationship when a party bashes the other party publicly before the collaboration has even started. If WB execs r being sent the messages that things'll go sour anyway, there's little reason to be motivated and try and make it big because without the artist's commitment and dedication it won't work anyway. So IDK, maybe they also realized that prince was basically just trying to save his face by saying "I made a deal with those guys but that doesn't mean I negate everything I said about them for the last 20 years", but maybe they aren't that philosophical and if they ain't prince may have already managed to fuck it all up before it even started sad

Everything you say is right. I'm just not surprised. This site is run by amateurs and feels like it, while official sites have been one horror show after another. If you genuinely like the man's music and/or just want to know what's going on - you have no place.

They did attempt to make one master thread for the PR anniversary release, but this deserves it's own thread. Who wants to wade through 234874 posts? Thankfully this isn't Reddit.

Don't let those idiots bring you down, they've never contributed anything and are simply jealous that you stumbled upon a possibly groundbreaking newsitem and provided both a source (so it could be verified) and an explanation to show that even though that news might be unlikely, it could very well be true. Many thanks for your efforts.

It's a business, not a camp reunion. How can they make "quick and easy cash" if they just release it without promotion? Unless it's some new marketing plan where they don't market. Promo copies, listening parties, advertising are pretty standard.

^ So much truth, rolled up in one post! This news item was (and still is legit), but it got some blow back. I feel, the reason for the blow back, is basically frustration of Prince remaining fans, because repeatedly Prince would announce a project, only to have it cancelled on a moment's notice. This has occured for YEARS! So it's understandable for folks to be a little skepitcal of Prince related releases. Also, it's definitely true, Prince has waged war on his fans. I haven't forgotten what he did to Uptown magazine! Not to mention that woman posted a brief video of her baby dancing to "Kiss", and Prince had his personal lawyer "Londell" slap her with a cease and desist notice. And don't get me started with his attempt to sue 12 THOUSAND fans, who was snapping pictures of him at a concert (that was some retarted BS, for real). Prince obviously showed the very same kind of attitude with his dealings with major record companies...so you can see where all this chaos stems from.

Me, I love Prince's music. I love his stage performance.....but like Kanye West, his uber arrogant way of doing things has cost him dearly. Many fans has moved on, and plenty of his remaining fans, are a little bitter. Sorry for the long speech, but I feel it needed to be said.

Personally, it's promotion or lack thereof doesn't bother me. That will drives sales but that's not my concern. I just want the product and I want it to be a good product. Rather it goes unpromoted and has all we dream of than it's just a remaster with an extend let's go crazy and it sells millions.

i do not know about those but according to Peach and Black podcast: they met with Prince and Prince said he has the first 3 albums back. (which was odd as the law is 35 years and not 30) He also said something like it is easy to remaster now with computers.

The person I asked said that Prince and WB had been in talks for over a year. But that is not new info. There was a topic or two here a year or so ago about that. As well as prince being seen in PP and even some talk about him being in the vault.

I had said some time ago that Prince may not have owned the valut maters either.

First, the album has already been remastered. It was released on vinyl a few years back AND on HDTracks (YES, this is confirmed. Check out the Steve Hoffman forums). So the only things that would probably have to be remastered at this point are any bonus tracks. I don't know WHY fans have forgotten this.

Second, promotion for a re-release of a 30 year old album doesn't require the promotion of say a new album. Listening parties are completely unnecessary and actually counterproductive to any unreleased bonus material. Not only that but promotion in the internet age is not the same as the 80s. Posters, flyers, ads etc. are a waste. One press release gets posted on a hundred websites, so overkill is pointless.

Third, as databank pointed out through his contact, the date probably has been switched back and forth, Warner wanting one (closer to the anniversary date) and Prince wanting another (being a pompous twit asshole perfectionist). Which one will happen, if it happens at all, remains to be seen.

Because nothing says "love" quite like rolling your eyes at someone.

God knows that when I did that to my mom, she always got a misty look in her eyes and said, "I love you, honey."

Oh, wait. I didn't roll my eyes at her, because it's a disrespectful thing to do to someone, and I knew better.

I always appreciate fans efforts in sharing information whether it be news related or concert reports. In light of reading this thread, I deceided to reach out to a some what high up executive at Warners(US) that I have known since 1990. All of the information this person has shared with me throughout the years has always wound up being true, even if some of the projects never saw the light of day. He's given me a fair wealth of promo inhouse x-reference cassettes that never saw the light of day but were submitted for consideration. I really didnt want to bug him with this question but this is what he told me via email last night. The 30th anniv. reissue of "Purple Rain" is still being worked on and it is not finished as product. They are close with the final sequence of songs but there are working on the packaging and what they want to include in the deluxe set. The targeted release dates are either the third or fourth week of November. Either being November 18th or 25th. There will be a huge promotional and marketing campaign for this release. Also the new as yet untitled Prince album will be released the same day as well. In fact the new Prince album hasn't even been submitted yet but a early version has been played for some executives and marketing employees. No news on the 3rd Eye Girl album. I've always been truthful and as accurate with what I post on this site. I really don't post alot on here being for the most part the majority of the posts and how people treat each other on here I find quite disgusting. There's a least a few people on here that I speak to in private that post on this site regularly that will tell you that I'm pretty accurate with my information and knowledge.

I would love for this release to come out this summer as much as anyone but I'm more relieved that they are taking their time to ensure the best possible product for this title.

Those two releases(which also have no Prince involvement) are a completly different beast and have nothing to do with the new remastered version and both of those releases are not being used for the current project.. There has also big promotion and marketing efforts with alot of high profile remaster deluxe anniversary reissues. There's been huge promotional efforts with the new Led Zepplin remasters and I'm quite sure Prince and WB would follow the play book with the LZ remasters. Listening parties are fairly cheap to produce and execute and they are mainly reserved for music critics and bloggers. Jimmy Page held a world exclusive listening party/session at the Olympia Theatre for some 1,500 contest winners from around the globe showcasing the unreleased tracks that would appear on the first 3 sets of LZ remasters. That was a big deal and garned alot of promotion for the project.

Thanks big chick. I feel much better already! All that had to be done is have a reliable source (god, wouldn't hearing from the artist or record company be fantastic?) tell us a release date and be done with it. Fuck all the secret shit and guessing and waiting and disappointment.

November. Got it. I can move on and focus on other things. When it gets close to November, I can look at the calendar and plan accordingly.

Honestly. They could have said "April 2015". It doesn't really matter. Just f'n tell me. Is it that hard?

the logical reaction could be "if he's gonna make it hard for us and complain anyway, why even bother, let's just release the shit, make some quick and easy cash with it before he gets mad at us

.

It's a business, not a camp reunion. How can they make "quick and easy cash" if they just release it without promotion? Unless it's some new marketing plan where they don't market. Promo copies, listening parties, advertising are pretty standard.

It's not unherd of Beyonce just did it with her album, no one knew anything about it, Think it was the same with the Last Bowie album too?

Very different cases. Beyonce and Bowie had anticipation on their side. Bowie was rumored to be sick possibly dying, and taking a break from music, and Beyonce's label said they would issue a press release then gave out disinformation before dropping all the videos. That doesn't work with a reissue. Contrary to the mood around here, it's not an automatic sell. What you're talking about could maybe work with a new Prince solo record... but then again, he's been leaking songs, and it's not lighting up the music world.

.

What Big Chick described makes complete sense, right down to the marketing department getting a preview of a potential release.

Yeah what Bigchick is saying sounds right and makes perfect sense, my point was more that its not unheard of for things to be released with little promotion, didn't mean it would be the case for this release. smile

.

However, his current tour could be billed as promotion enough to justify the release if it were to be released sooner, his current presence and activity is obviously building his popularity across Europe.
