Please let them know that someone with contacts at WB France strongly denied this info and ask 'em how come? wink

I used to work for a record store. Generally speaking you get release date info and that's it. They don't put the thing together they just sell it.

Anyway, while this seems accurate, it's only two weeks away with zero build-up. I mean, we know about it because you spotted a low-grade poster. Makes me feel like this isn't gonna be a lot of flair. There could be some very disappointed fans on here.

Hopefully tomorrow they may have some info on the system...I'll ask them to check as they are usually great with details like price, number of discs, amount of stock arriving etc with pre-releases...I've also just this minute e-mailed Fopp and asked for more regarding the release smile

I know it's not supposed to look perfect but this doesn't look very official. There is even an 'o' instead of a 0 for '30'

Well, I said it was possible. It's just that if you google it, you find nothing. So this one retailer is the first to release this info? Again, possible, but not likely in my opinion. That is less than 3 weeks away, and no words from Warners or Prince...but wait, some shop somewhere has the info!!! smile

This isn't really 'some shop somewhere', Fopp is a big deal for a small retailer in both London and Manchester...they are under the umbrella of HMV and get many exclusives and fantastic deals. I didn't have time to go to the big HMV store (good connections to the major labels) in town as it's moved locations and I didn't have time, but I suspect that they also had a similar update smile

[Edited 5/30/14 10:21am]

So are you saying that Fopp is sometimes the first with release date info from a major artist reissue before the record company or artist announces it? With the date being so close to now, it just looks unlikely. Even with today's faster paced distribution methods, this just makes no sense. And as someone who failed art in school, I probably could've figured out how to make such a lame poster. (Well, maybe not.)

I just think it is unlikely that any retail chain would be the first with the "Breaking News."

As I said, sure anything is possible. Look "Jughead" and "Wedding Feast" got released, and "Moonbeam Levels" didn't!

if it's really being released that soon,it's a shame that Warners isn't doing more promotion. This project should be treated like an EVENT.Wouldn't it be cool if one of the previously unreleased tracks ("Electric Intercourse"?) was released as a single? To get people more hyped for this project?

This doesn't undermine the legitimacy of the date. All retailers may have been aware of the date it's just that Fopp have decided to publicize it. Good for them. It's two weeks away. It worries me, though, that Warner's are still silent.

Fopp (as well as HMV and numerous German music suppliers) have had information before and I have stumbled upon them by accident...before the fan forums and before an official press release have been released...keeping in mind that, unfortunately, to many retailers (away from the org and music fan sites) this is just another remaster release and no 'biggie', not like a brand new studio album. I'm not saying they are correct, but for them they may have received some info and put up a poster along with numerous other releases (and to be honest, in their eyes, probably bigger releases including DVDs etc) that I didn't photograph. For example, I saw a release date for the new Morrissey album on a German online record shop weeks before any official announcement or press release...so it could still be true. And making highly artistic posters is probably very low on their list of 'things to do' at the store...unlike their mother store (HMV) that just supplies a simple future releases name/title/date board, the cool guys at Fopp made something a bit more interestng in a spare 5 minutes...that's the kind of store they are, they didn't have to but they did smile

I just saw the poster, got very excited and sent loads of messages to my music friends and the first thing I did on my return was share with you guys on the org, so let's hope that the date is true and the next two weeks will be an onslaught of Purple Rain information and excitement. Whether Fopp got it wrong is an innocent mistake if they were fed incorrect information, but we are all aware of past crapness when Warners are involved wink I'll ask tomorrow and see what they know about the poster and release date.

Unless concrete info is posted, I'd have rather that those (supposedly) in the know would post nothing at all... It just makes my blood boil...

Hi all...I love in London and have just returned from record shopping and noticed this on the wall of Fopp (UK music/film retailer linked to HMV). On their 'coming soon' posters it states that the Purple Rain 30th Anniversary has a release date of JUNE 16TH for the UK!!!

Well it was released originally in 25th June 1984, so a June release would make sense

Yeahhhh, getting gossip from the European side of a label is silly.

They're rarely clued in to things, and can have drastically different release dates, especially with reissues.

.

June would be a surprise though. Who knows.

The French forum isn't an anonymous jungle like here, it's a small community, everybody knows everybody in real life, people can't just so easily pop up outta nowhere, say shit and run. This dude has his own music magazine in Paris, every one knows him, he's got ties with people in the labels, music press, clubs, venues and shit. If he starts saying BS for one thing it's his magazine's credibility that's ruined besides his own. So now IDK, like everybody he may be wrong or misinformed and plans can also change at the last second but he's informed and bonafide.

It seems anyway (ooooh surprise!) that this is all a huge mess at WB and Paisley Park. According to the infos this dude and and few others with insiders at WB France have given over the last month, the release date has been moved forwards and backwards and forwards and backwards again and again for the last few weeks, going from June to December. It's already a typical prince mess rolleyes

Promoting a week or two before it's release is all that's needed for the push in sales.

I'm sure the media and WB are going to make a huge deal out of this re-release.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment
