Eye Could Never Take The Place Of Ur Man - live video 27/05

Hot from the Prince and 3rdEyeGirl performance at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on 27th May, a concert video of 'Eye Could Never Take The Place Of Ur Man' has been posted by 3rdEyeGirl

It can be accessed here:

Kinda cool...kinda sounding like they stripped the personality out of it and turning everything into the same song... and it's still weird that the old songs are mostly all played either half time or double time. I think in a weird way it forces Prince to work harder on stage to keep the train on the tracks, and seeing him so engaged is pretty great.

Why the hell does he always start dressing up like a hippie whenever he's touring mainland Europe?

I like this arrangement and that the mood fits the story a little more.
What?

Great - it was an amazing show to watch.

Btw it was 25/05 not 27/05!

I couldn't watch the whole thing (at least now right now). The first poster was right -- why does everything with 3EG sound so completely different from the original, and end up all sounding the same? Once in a while is OK (like Let's Go Crazy) but it's too much to do it all the time.

.

It's like they can only play mind-numbingly slow lounge music or mind-blowingly fast metal, and to me it feels like Prince conforms to their comfort zone rather than them rising to his.

I like it. It's cool to have different versions of the same songs. I love the slowed down version they had up a while back a little better but this is cool, too. thumbs up!

Well we already had this (as "Medium") a year and a half ago. Somehow I fail to be excited at the idea of getting several new live renditions of 80's songs. Do u realize that over the last year and a half we've had 2 versions ICNTTPOYM, 2 versions of The Glamorous Life, 4 versions of Something In The Water, 5 versions of She's Always In My Hair and 10 versions of Let's Go Crazy!!! (The figures r correct, I've just counted and that's only for 2013-14).

I'm sorry, I sure appreciate the free giveaways but coming from a guy who's got a 1000+ catalogue of songs, I think I'm entitled to expect more than getting live renditions of the same 5 songs again and again. + I could tolerate 5 renditions of a brand new song, but it has to be 30 years old songs on top of it all rolleyes

Now sure it's all available for free, I feel a bit bad complaining about something that I don't have to purchase, but u c what I mean cool

Hmm not sure about the last couple of lines but I agree - I am not a fan of this version. I LOVE the one on SOTT. So much frikking energy and it just makes me want to jump around. I turned this one off around 2 mins in as I was like neutral which is a shame. I like the other changes like LGC and the MBSITW video makes me want to crank that mofo up and scream. But this.. shame.

I like it. I do love the original, but the slowed down, more dramatic feel really works with this song.

Erm, the video appears to have been made private, so a few hours after it was online it has effectively been removed. As to why Prince has decided to do this us mere mortals can only speculate.

The original tweet said "Watch it while you can", or words to that effect, so it was obvious it was only going to be up for a short period of time. It's about creating a sense of scarcity and being in the moment, creating an ephemeral nature. Pretty clever actually. The exact same reason why Snapchat is the hottest messaging app right now and Facebook tried to buy it for billions. Once it's gone, it's gone. If you missed it, too bad.

I think the main reason Snapchat is so popular is because young people like seeing other young people naked.
But fair enough, I didn't see the original tweet though. I must say it's not a strategy I particularly like, I mean, lots of people have commitments which mean that they are prevented from being near a computer at any specific time, so it feel a bit unfair to them.

No, I do not see what you mean. You really are complaining about something that cost you nothing. Do not hit the link next time and keep it moving. One of the great things about P is that he changes up the songs live and has come up with better versions.

Removed and also only 480p max for quality. Yes he is doing everything he can to prevent unauthorized reproduction of this, which he has every right to do, but at the same time, he did post it and say it won't be up long, which is better than nothing. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

It wasnt that mind blowing anyway....agree with most of the statements made here.

How excited can we be for a 20+ year old song that was perfect the first time....

Everybody who has a life and can't be online 24/7 like me is now pissed, because we missed it. But the internet never forgets. I will hunt this down and am sure to find it. Prince's ways are really annoying. If he wants to share something, he should keep the stuff online for a reasonable amount of time. But his actions speak volumes, he's a crazy and very complicated person who obviously enjoys it to piss off his fans.

So, here's how this broke down...

For the first time in a long time, a new video release appeared on the FRONT PAGE of the org, not buried somewhere in a thread on some other subject....

I go for a few hours longer than normal without checking....

And it's only up for those few hours.

Good lord.

While another version of Never Take the Place might not be my first choice, not being able to see it ticks me off. At least a day of availability seems reasonable.

Saw the video. The image looked a bit strecthed, I thought. Maybe that's why they took it off again?

He sang that one quite beautifully - very carefully. And the dual guitar-playing towards the end was pretty cool. Glad I saw it.
